I'm debating on looking at a v8 diesel ml(2008) thats had 2 owners with full service history(first 2 mb,last 2 specialist independant). The car has done 60,135 miles but the atf/filter service hasn't been done(due at 40k miles/4 years),although i can use this as a bargaining point(£270ish to get done) would it cause a problem being 21k overdue on the atf/filter change(car will be 4 years old on 22nd of this month). Thanks for any thoughts/opinions on this:).

My W221 was 18k over due for this when it was done... never caused me any issues but did seem to shift a lot better...

Also Ian did my ATF fluid in the SL and that had the factory juice in it @ 98k shifts wonderfully and no harm done.... The sludge that dripped out was something to behold though :)

Thanks for thge reply, makes me a bit more comfortable about the ml i'm contemplating now,at least it's just within the 4 year atf/filter change due date albeit overdue on mileage.

I don't think it will matter, just get it done now. I bet lots of cars owned by non-forum members don't have an ATF change at all, or at least late in life...

...and those that do will only be a part-change rather than a full flush.

You won't miss out on goodwill from MB because of it either, because they'd decline at first pass with independent services in th book.

If it's otherwise well maintained then it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Thanks for your thoughts Bobby,if i decide on that car i will get the atf/filter changed other than that the service history is up to date/on time albeit a mix of mb/specialist.
