Audio 10 connection question - newbie

Hi All

Read a lot of good stuff in the forums so decided to register and ask a (probably) easy question :D . OK - car is C220 Estate (2003) with standard Audio 10 head unit which I want to improve on. Can install Becker CD autochanger in glove box but limited usage from what I've read (no MP3). I've choosen to buy & fit a MusizVault (www.mptronix.com) rather than keg / Neo because I think the unit suits me better and will allow me to control the unit using existing Bluetooth Palm PDA (neat huh !).

Questions
1. MV has SPDIF output - is this compatible with Audio 10 fibre-in
1.5 If the answer to 1. is No, then what other way can I connect (apart from FM modulator) and if I get a choice, what should the preference be
2. Should I replace speakers and if so, any suggestions (no fixed budget but haven't won the lottery)
3. Should I change the head unit and if so, what's compatible with the steering wheel controls & doesn't look out of place (i.e. no flashy displays or garish colours)

Should point out as well that the car is a lease vehicle but I'm intending to purchase at end of lease so don't mind putting a few pennies into it. However, I can't make radical (or non-removable) changes just in case.

Thanks in advance and look forward to some useful advice.

You pretty much have Alpine and one or two others but it doesnt do anything other than respond to the steering wheel, which is kind of trivial.

Buy a COMAND and call it quits. It makes the sound improve since it is after all a head unit worth several thousand dollars.

For MP3 just whack in an iPOD with an FM modulator, since the AUX port is also available with COMAND. Keep an eye posted in the steering wheel capable iPOD interface, due later this year.

You can also go nuts and install a PC in the boot. This is where you have to check the strength of your chill pills ......
