Audio 20 "NO PHONE" problem, 2005 R171

I have a 2005 SLK350 and a 2011 W212 E250CDI? Both have UHI phone integration. I have an Iphone 4 cradle which is usually fitted to the E250 and works fine. The SLK350 was my late father's car which I've only owned for a few months. I plugged the Iphone cradle into the SLK (it originally came with a Nokia 6230 cradle). It pairs with my Iphone OK but when you press the Tel button on the Audio 20 it states "No Phone". The head unit seems to function OK in other respects except the CD changer also stopped working a few months before my Dad passed away. The head unit states "no CDC" when you try to select the CD changer. Could the two issues be related? My Dad rarely used his phone in the car so not sure if the phone functionality failed at the same time as the CD changer. Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes. The phone controller and CDC are on the same Fibre network.

If the CDC dies then the Audio-20 can no longer see the phone controller either. I suggest you optically bypass the CDC and see if the phone system bursts into life. I think you will find it does.
