I already have an Audio 50 for GPS duties on my A-Class - but I am now looking at buying a speed camera detector.

I had considered buying either the Road Angel Professional Connected or Snooper Lynx (and if anyone has experience of these, please do tell).

Alternatively, is it possible to 'piggy back' the gps signal of the Audio 50 with the bluetooth connectivity of an iPod Touch? Theoretically, I could then buy something like the Cyclops Speedwatch app.

The reasoning behind this is that the TomTom Cradle has a GPS receiver to enable an iPod Touch to act as GPS unit. So, rather than pay for this device, I would like to learn if anyone else has successfully paired their Audio 50 or Comand units to wirelessly communicate with their iPod Touch.

It looks as though the Mio GPS Car Kit is the way to go - iPhone Cradle - Mio Technology

This is the same unit as the Magellen Car Kit in the USA - Magellan GPS- Magellan RoadMate for iPhone App Premium Car Kit

The Mio can easily be obtained from Argos for £79. Unlike the TomTom offering, the Mio's adjustable cradle means that it will fit any variant of the iPhone or iPod Touch.

The Speedwatch app is here - Welcome to Speedwatch - The worlds first intelligent real-time speed camera alert system

I tried out the speedwatch app......nothing like as complete as the camera alert one....speedwatch didn't find all my local mobile sites but camera alert did

bluetooth gps module....cheapo on ebay will do the trick

I checked-out the 'cheap' gps module route, but discovered that the iPod Touch needs to be jailbroken (roqyBluetooth) to enable bluetooth to communicate with most gps receivers.

Only one product on the market at this time is specifically designed to work with the iPod Touch - or iPad Wi-Fi - (without jailbreaking) and is Apple approved.

The GNS 5870 MFI costs the same as the dedicated Mio car cradle (£79) and lasts up to 10 hours per charge, but the big advantage is that it is totally portable - whether using it in the car, boating/sailing, walking, hiking, flying or golfing.

COMPANY: GNS - Global Navigation Systems

For anyone that's interested, Road Angel is now available on the Mac App Store.

It's free to download, £1.99 for one month subscription or £17.99 annually.
