Auto-dimming mirror retrofit

Thanks Richard. I can live with a 'fault' reading on the mic as long as it works - also prompt me to get to you guys quicker too.

I was more concerned about the comment about the connector tab as my tabs are white and I don't want to risk messing the connector up, but then I remembered this left over from the two mirrors I previously tried to build from so can do a practice run :)

Assume coding from 2 to 4 mics is simple enough for you guys?

Following on from the quick German lesson from Richard, I did a search in German and came across this one

MERCEDES BENZ E 200-500 (W211) Innenspiegel - OM642.920 - Bj 2007 - 292860 km | eBay

It looks to be the newer style with mic on top, judging by the white connector, which would save me the hassle of modifiying the black connector and saves OCP repromming for different no. of microphones, and also looks to be in better condition.

Can someone please check the VIN (WDB2110221B113692) for the colour code? Would also appreciate confirmation that it is auto-dimming. I'm guessing it is because of the light sensor on the back shown in the pic, but nothing there to say it is auto-dimming (or 'elektrochrom' as the Germans would say!) but then the first one Richard posted a link doesn't say it either.

I've narrowed it down to this one (first choice if the colour is right, for the reasons stated above) or the first one that Richard posted if this is the wrong colour. I will then take the plunge with one or the other.

On a separate note, bit cheeky of them to price their items the same amount whether it's in Euros and Pounds (i.e. €160 or £160) for the same item, depending on which site you use. Rip-off Britain, again, I guess

Thanks again, guys.

Actually, no need to check that VIN. I was at my local MB dealership today where they have a ver good parts guy who looked it up for ma, apparently that is a grey one - looks beige to me, but there you go. Looks like it's the first one, as soon as I do a practice run with that spare wire...

Quick update - ALL SORTED! :)

Didn't need to cut anything on the connectors in the end, I just used a flat screwdriver (very carefully) to loosen the black connector so that the white one would fit without the index tab or anything else having to be cut (use a screwdriver slightly bigger than the opening and insert gently where index tab would go). I was just a bit wary of cutting any of the original connections in case I needed to revert back to the original!

I've also contacted Mark at Unique about the coding just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for all the help and advice (esp Richard) and if anybody needs spare mirror parts, you know who to ask, haha!
