Hi all
I have a 07 E320 CDi V6 diesel auto with a gearbox problem and I’d appreciate your thoughts please.
Over the last few weeks it would stick in gear ie coming off the motorway stay in a high gear but have little drive like a slipping clutch, or stick in a low gear when pulling away. A quick off/ on with the ignition and all ok for a good few hundred miles.
Last night resetting it didn’t work and it’s now become harsh when engaging forward or reverse (just like my old range rovers, ie engages with a bump)
Any ideas please? We have a couple of merc specialists here plus gearbox specialists.
It’s a lovely low mileage (110k) with history and id love to keep it, but not at the price of another car!!!
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks
Gareth

You would be surprised what incorrect ATF level can make your transmission do . Check the fluid level , at 50k you could very well need another service doing on it.

If its a 7G tronic it should be done around 40K or 4 years.

I was going to say that a service might be in order - Did you have any odd warning lights on the dash ( ABS / ESP ) come on? sometimes the speed detectors need replacing and do cause those symptoms in the gear box ??

But a good service is always worth it - Mine is in on Monday for an MOT and gearbox service ..... and the speed detection units replacing ( Hence i know about the gearbox symptom! )

Don't rule out engine faults, before blaming the gearbox. Get it scanned for codes. Resetting the ign wouldn't effect gearbox issues tbh.

Oddly enough when i rest the codes on mine, i was told that if the problems re occurs then turn off the ignition and wait a minute or so then start it up again ...... Hence i am having the speed detectors renewed. My gear box has been absolutely fine after all of the codes were cleared, but prior to that it was displaying the same issues as the original poster. Felt like it was stuck in 3rd and then reverse wasn't there and other associated issues.

It may just be something completely different, but i would definitely check out the codes and do a reset ands see what happens.
