Auto-retracting MB star emblem (W124)

Just saw this on Ebay - seller said it was an aut-lowering MB star emblem that was operated by the remote locking/alarm. Very cool:

Anyway, were these retracting badge things ever an official option? Or were they a 3rd party add-on?

I think they were a 3rd party add-on and IIRC Sp!ke has the same thing on his coupe.

They were 3rd party items and quite rare. Sp!ke on this forum has one fitted, a quick search should reveal the story

Aha - some toerag had my previous W201 emblem away. And I still have to park in the same crappy area when visiting family.
