To be fair to the OP, I don't think he was blaming the car, I think he accepts that he was negligent, he's just wondering why the failsafe system which he thought he had, didn't work.

Possibly because they are unfamiliar with the car and have not understood the safety systems available to them which comes down to the fundamental problem of not reading the manual.
