I'm about to sell my CLK and would like to hear where members think I should list it; Autotrader, Ebay or both?

I've always used Autotrader in the past as I think it has the widest coverage, but maybe that is becoming less true?

The various fees are:

Ebay
classified: insertion £12.99, no final fee
auction: insertion £8.00, 1% final fee

Autotrader
£40 3 week website, 3 weeks magazine
£35 2 weeks website, 1 week magazine
£40 6 weeks website
£25 2 weeks website

Ebay classified ad for me every time. I sold two cars in this way. Put a good honest ad on there with decent photos and a good description and of course a competitive price and it will sell.

Pistonsheds? Try an ad here and on various other forums too. A forum buyer is likely to be more honest etc and a smoother deal.

Id go for pistonheads as well, I sold my MX5 there to the first fella that viewed it, lots of photos, full story and it was free!

Cheers

My "sticky" SL got nowt in trader but a fair bit in Ebay and ultimately Ebay with a mention here, and a free ad in PISTONHEADS is the most cost effective way and it will sell if £ right

Autotrader everytime, makes sure you carefully investigate on the trader before deciding the price, take a look to see the order of cars listed before deciding.

Otherwise there are lots of traders on here..... why not offer it up?

people who know what they want from my experience check autotrader first

the people in my experience who use ebay want everything for nothing and get on my nerves and you get ten times more time wasters usually by email

Another vote for pistonheads here.

Advertise there and ebay seems to work.

Sold my last 2 cars via advert on eBay (BMW & Merc)......Had advert on autotrader for BMW but got no replies...did not bother this time, just put advert on Ebay & also Pistonheads......got two people interested almost straightaway...one via ebay and one via Pistonheads.....sold in 48 hours...

Pistonheads for me.... Sold my last car on there!! Ebay after that then id only pay autotrader fees as a last resort!!

I think I'd initially try Pistonheads (free, good coverage, decent audience), and after a week or so stick a classified advert on eBay (unless you're looking to sell very quickly?).

Autotrader is good, but I do often check there after browsing Pistonheads and eBay these days, so perhaps the other two are a better bet first of all - after all, they're much cheaper and you get more space for extra text/photos etc.

Good luck,

Will

I'd agree and say try pistonheads first. You can write a better advert on pistonheads than you can on autotrader too.
Then both ebay and the trader

ebay and PH

Thats my first port of call now for a car, Autotrader after, used to be the other way round but now?!

I sell 70% of my cars through auto trader... 20% through ebay and 10% pistonheads.

I feel that my best ads are actually the pistonheads as they are much more flexible.. I can insert my own pics with HTML etc which ebay motors doesnt allow me to do...

Im afraid auto trader still gets much more traffic than all the others put together so would ensure you have an advert there too.

i recently sold a range rover on ebay, i always think with cars start them at 4.99 no reserve and they will sell for the right money.

We got almost £2000 more than we thought, and most others had reserves and did not get did as high, i think if there is no reserve whoever bid could win it

I`d pick Autotrader 1st, then some other websites. Ebay is not on my list( never used it and never will ) . :)
