What the #$@&%*!

I was following a big 4 wheel drive down a road doing around 40kph when he suddenly slammed on anchors and stopped because he thought a car from a side road was about to hit him. The car in question being quite some distance away.

Only damage to 4wd is the chrome cover on his tow bar was damaged. Mine smashed front bumper hanging off, lower grill smashed, sensors now beeping away!!!!!! Fortunately no damage to the lights or spots!!

Does anyone know if the grey 2009/2010 CLS Grand Edition front grills are still available? I would prefer to replace with the real thing, rather than a painted copy. I presume the actual bumper is a standard unit.

EDIT: Sorry for spelling in heading - still really miffed at ruining my pristine new toy.

Lifting the bonnet I see more damage.

There is cross beam that is also bent where the towbar hit. This is looking expensive.

I'd expect so, or possibly supplied colourless and need spraying. Whats your VIN number?

If thats the front cross member, i'm pretty sure it is just bolt-on - but no idea if anything else is bent :-( It seems to fix to a left and right "absorber" which suggests they bend on impact too. I guess you'll find out when you try and bolt the new one on ..

Cheers

Richard

ps, lots of different bumpers (AMG, no AMG, Parking sensors, no Parking sensors, USA, South Korea, Rest-of-World) so be careful you get the right one if picking a used one. New will need painting.

Thank you Richard. I am hoping to use the MB dealer in my neighbouring city if the insurance agrees so hopefully they know about the car. Problem is I am told it is 1 of only 3 of the grand edition privately imported into NZ so will need to make sure they know this. Really appreciate your reply though.

The dealers put the VIN into EPC, and EPC tells them the parts specific for your vehicle. 99.9% of the time it is accurate - occasionally it tells you two part numbers and you have to think a bit.
In the case of your car, the grill is colour code 'designo mango platinum', and its available in Germany :-) (I can't check Aus!)

Quite a bit of damage for doing less than 25mph. He probably got annoyed with you being glued to his rear end and decided to teach you a lesson?

Frankly I find it more than a little rude and insulting that you assume I was glued to his rear or you assume I need teaching a lesson. I did not join the mbclub to be insulted.

It was a 50km zone and we had just crossed a raised railway line 90m previously where we both slowed to an almost stop. In fact I turned to follow him a little before the railway line so was only following for less than 200m.

As to his decision to brake sharply he admitted liability because he was overly nervous of the car on the side road as his 4wd was only 1 day old (he had driven it twice) and didnt want to damage it. My mistake was not expecting a car to do an emergency stop in the middle of a road for no reason.

Unless things are very different over there you can't claim liablility on your insurer's behalf and they'd wouldn't accept it anyway because Crosis was too close to stop in an emergency and therefore the one at fault, however unintentional that fault may be.

You sound like a proper drama queen. You'll fit in here fine.

And you a nasty piece of work and a proper forum troll. I thought this was a forum for MB enthusiasts where you could seek advice. Still you can take satisfaction that you have got rid of me as this is my last post and I will take satisfaction that Karma is a bitch.

To others I have already mentioned it is covered by insurance, I was hear trying to get advice on the scale of the repair.

You posted this thread, had some very help (free) advice and have gotten defensive over nothing.

As that is your last post I wish you luck in finding (free) advice so quickly elsewhere.
