Backlit LED numberplates

Would be nicer without the outline of white on black.

The backlight could come through the black lettering if it was tinted plastic, so at night, the letters are all white light, during the day it would be black like dark window tints.

OK but illegal

They look OK on the right type of car but there is no way they are UK legal even with rear plate lamps left in.

Tampering with a number plate is a criminal act as is not showing one that passes the (strict) size/colour guidelines laid down by our wonderful lawmakers.

Having NO plates on your car is LESS of an offence than tampering with them. Google it.

Could make one for a lot less

they use led plates at the suzuka 8 hr race bikes.
prob do for most of the endurance races now

They're made from alloy, so that would mean that they are not street legal.

That and other things make them illegal, just as I have pointed out to the noisy bloke at my local pub who drives a (decidedly average) BMW and insists his pressed metal (raised digit) number plates are legal because they are the right colour !

Luckily for him Plod round where we live are busy with more pressing matters. Only a matter of time though..
