Backup generates error 0x80070057

Hi there

I'm using Vista home with SP2

When I try to do a backup via the Wizard, I get the error message above


I get a nag about "30 days has elapsed since your last back up" but am never able to accomplish anything.

Any ideas please?

Or

Does anyone know of a good free back-up programme?

According to Microsoft:

This error is caused by a bug in File Backup where if you don't back up at least one file during the full backup, every backup after that fails. The workaround is to go through the Backup wizard again and choose a new full file backup at the very end.

Complete PC backup failes on Vista (error 0x80070057) is also a good hit.


In all seriousness. I wouldn't expend more than 30 mins on this, there are 3rd party backup products free or otherwise which can accomplish what you want, if it's not easily fixable circumvent it.

Tried shrinking the volume by 10 Mb as suggested on one of the posts - no use.

Will download some freeware to do a backup
