Bah! Hit and run! :(

How about a little help from your friends on here! :)

As Glojo has already said, the police should be doing the groundwork, but the chances are that they are "too busy" or don't have the time to pursue it.

Anyway, L ??? THF is a valid registration, and has an absolute maximum amount of combinations of 1000?, probably much less?

Celica GT4s are rare, and it is unlikely that you will find many (if more than 1), AND in black!

Copy and paste, then add your details to the bottom:

Will - search: L000 THF - L050 THF

I was doing a search in the wee hours Monday morning, didn't find a single Toyota. Just lots of Nissans, Renaults & Fords.

Edit:- Remember this thread from a few weeks ago?

Why not just ask the DVLA?

No Will I didn't  ..Just the first 20 and lots of round numbers ie 100,150,200 etc... As dealers are allocated numbers in blocks I was trying to find a block of Toyotas... and didn't.

Don't let me stop you though....

True, but if the likelyhood is that it is a grey import (I think most GT4s were?) then the DVLA could have given it whatever number they had lying around, and may have no other Toyotas numbers-wise around the plate!

I see your logic, and it may have worked for a more common, UK car.

The other possibility is that it was wearing false plates!

May also explain why the drive drove off in a hurry!

Fingers crossed (and most likely) that it is in the pile somewhere!

Cheers,

Will

Sadly 'blocks' have no reason behind them. Vauxhall L336 - L385 THF ????

Just completed L800-L899 and all Fords again - I think that completes the list. I had a few 'VEHICLE NOT ON DATABASE' - It may be one of them :(

Wow, amazing work guys! Thanks for all your help! :D

I will have a play with the links as well, see if I can track the celica down.

Will 0-50
pjh 50-200
glojo 200-800
High-Lo 800-999

  • either the RAC site is not up to date
  • the thief knows about the RAC site and found an un-recorded number
  • thief knows it's a false plate 'cos it was on the previous car he wrote-off !
  • wasn't LxxxTHF

Sorry we've drawn a blank Shude...it's up to your mates to keep a look-out.

Hi Shude,
It is still possible for the Police to locate the vehicle but it is a question of priorities. Injury hit and run incidents will have a higher priority than non injury ones. Hence my previous post about reporting any injury no matter how slight to either yourself or passengers. (whiplash is usually the favourite)

The only Toyota's I have located were the following:

623 Carina Blue
625 Carina Blue
626 Corolla Blue
627 Camry Green
629 Carina Blue
630 Corolla White

Sorry about drawing a blank 621 and 622 are not allocated, but it is possible the witnesses have made a slight error with the letters.

Good luck,
John

I started the car up this morning, battery light came on. I set off to work anyway and after about 20 seconds it went off. Same thing happened when I fired the car up to go home from work. I popped the bootlid to see if there was anything visually wrong with the battery and the boot didn't open! I had to wrench the boot open, and then it wouldn't close! I have to push the lid towards the car and then slam it to get the bootlid shut

Looks like the back of my car is bent then!

This isn't going to be cheap to repair I can tell, I guess I should get it inspected :(

This might work,It did for me when my lady slammed the boot shut too hard.It had twisted the latch hook out of line with the boot lid lock.A quick reposition was all it needed.
Hope you get the bas***ds soon.

Get it inspected Nick, then you'll know exactly where you stand. As Pluggers has suggested the damage may not be as bad as you think. It only takes a minor amount of misalignment of the boot lock against the striker plate for the whole lot to become jammed/not close smoothly.

Good luck mate. :)

Shude,

Sorry to hear all this mate, twats like that should take a bus!

I happen to work in IT for the police, and I work at their hq where the call centre that takes the non-emergency calls come in (for my area). I'm pretty sure the procedure would be simliar to the force i work for, (yes still a civillian :D ) that is that they'd start to search for the plate as your talking to them, on both local intel databases, and PNC. They may well have located the plate number and noted it on the incident log. May be worth ringing them, they should be able to tell you any news if you have the incident number etc.

Also, if he happens to be known to the police locally, they may be able to find an intell record from almost any details you might be able to remember. Stuff like a baseball cap, smokes cigars, certainly and ear-ring or tats.

Good news is, each force has been given a van from the home office, ANPR (automatic numberplate recognition) and with a simple marker on PNC, the moment he drives by they'll have him! I've been out with the ANPR van, they can monitor up to 4 lanes of traffic at once. The guys from my force had sound samples whenever a car poped up, and it was so surprising how many there were! Your car would be exactly what they're on the lookout for too, so I'd say you may well get a result on this, i hope so anyway.

Greg
