Really pleased for you Norman - I was contemplating suggesting the prop coupling etc, but...

Anyway, shouldn't cost anywhere near as much to repair as a gearbox would! ;)

Look on the bright side, could have been really quite expensive. :)

£380 and fixed!
Have I been suckered?
I have pics of offending beast (which was the nearside half shaft) but do not know how to post here.
It looked like an incipient material defect which precipiated the fatigue failure.

Ouch ! 154k miles, you've got me worried as I'm on 143k.
I 'spose I might find out for myself next summer.

That's exactly like the other one we had posted, about 3/2rds along the shaft towards the wheel. A clean break.

If a new shaft complete with joints has been supplied then thats probably £200 or so for the shaft alone.
