Bare ECU

Looking at some of the adverts on auto trader and pictures in general it seems that the ECU on the modern V8 engines is at the top and, quite often, looking a bit shabby. Is there any reason why the casing isn't painted to make them look better?

I think that the bare case is also a cooling/heat sink for the ECU…

yes its the heatsink, I guess you could get it powdercoated, but wouldn't paint with anything that will stop the heat from dispersing.

The heatsinks I use at work are black anodised.

Yes, paint acts as an insulator.
