hi all,my car is ready for a new battery,halfords have a bosch silver 830 amp 100 ah at £130 is this steep?any recommendations appreciated.cheers 95 sl 320.

Do you only want a BOSCH? If so do you know anyone with a Costco card? You can get BOSCH there cheap. Also try Eurocarparts.

Previously used Varta Silver (5yr warranty) and also Banner (OEM for Audi) both which I would recommend. Varta can be found widely and Banner not so widely but normally at GSF carparts.

Type 019 Varta Silver Dynamic Car Battery 12V 100Ah (Short Code: H3) (Varta DIN: 600 131 080 or 600 402 083) - Car Batteries - Varta Car Batteries

Above sites may not be cheapest so shop around.

Hi,
It might be worth checking if you buy a lead acid battery online it may come dry charged, which means you will have to source acid to fill it up (approx.£15-20). Unless of coarse its a sealed battery.
Varta battery gets my vote had my C230K for nearly 10 years and i have covered 130,000miles still with the same Varta battery.

Another top tip!

Try your local Vauxhall dealer for batteries.. they sell AC Delco ones, surprisingly cheap, and they came first in the Auto Express battery test a while back..

Yet another top tip , if you want a genuine MB one , try an MB commercial vehicles dealer , batteries are cheaper there

If you fit the new battery yourself, be sure to use jumper leads to connect another battery to the car first. Otherwise, you will have to re-enter the radio code (not a big deal if you have the code).

Just in case this info is of use to anyone, I bought the same battery as mentioned above (found here) for £92 (delivered) from AutoPoint (www.caraccessoriesandparts.co.uk).

The battery I got is Varta brand, but it is exactly the same battery as the Bosch, but with a different label on it. It is made by the same company (JCI), has the same specifications (100Ah capacity; 830 CCA), 'PowerFrame' silver technology and same 5 year warranty.

To get the (small) discount, just give them a call. Delivery is included in the price. I'd be interested to hear if anyone can get this battery for less.

Bosch Silver and Varta are all very good, but shop around and you will pay around £70 for either instead of Halford's prices.

On the plus side, is you are not good with a spanner, Halford will install it for you if you buy it from them - usually for free, or for a fiver.

With a Halfords trade card, their battery's are about half price so worth checking if there's a member local with a trade card.
