Battery dead

Went to use my E320 petrol [93] today after it had not been driven for 9 days.
Every thing completely dead. Had to gain access via the key & not even a glimmer from any lights.
Fitted a new Halfords battery in April when I first owned it & it has been fine since.
I tried to charge it but my Sealy charger said the battery was dead/damaged & would not commence charging.
So I will be returning the battery to Halfords tomorrow, presuming that it is faulty.
Other wise, there must be a large current drain, which has not shown any signs.
It is not my daily run about, but I give it a decent run about once a week, which should keep the battery in reasonable charge.

Just a thought, have you checked the earthing of the battery? Nothing come loose or corroded? :dk:

In my opinion & experience, a battery after a good run should hold a decent charge after 9 days standing. If you go on holiday & leave your car in an airport car park, you expect it to turn over on return!
All connections are tight & no corrosion at all.

Took the battery back to Halfords & they exchanged it with no quibble.
Fitted it & all back to normal.
Will be keeping a close eye on it, as I don't really know what caused the problem.

So is it reasonable to assume that it was all due to a faulty battery?

I'm not surprised after nine days!

I lost the keys to my Meriva which has been sitting in my drive way not getting used
Anyway found the keys on top of a cupboard that I "put away safe" ...

Opened car with remote and started first time to take it round for its much needed MOT this was over 9 Months sitting not getting used not 9 days:rolleyes:

I often leave my C63 for 6 months or at least 3 months without starting. Battery only gave up after 4 years in the end. Mobilo replaced it free.

Nine days should be no problem for any car.

Had a faulty battery many years ago on my Cosworth - spurious alarms in the night and random not starting (dead) - turned out to be a broken connection "inside" the battery.

Nine days is no problem at all for a healthy battery. We have a property in Italy and our car over there, a Fiat 500 twin air, can sit for five months and start on the first turn off the key.
If it wasn't a faulty battery then you have a system on the car that isn't going to sleep draining it.
