Hello

I've just replaced the battery in my 2001 E320 CDI saloon with a new 95Ah. The recent cold spell killed the old one off after some 7 years use.

I plan to park the car up for 6 weeks soon and my concern is about whether a fully charged battery will last that long and still start the car whilst it's powering the alarm (and whatever else runs in the background).

Doe anyone have any experience of parking for this length of time and/or any figures on drain per hour?

Thank you.

You have two options.

1. Disconnect the battery
2. use a tricke charger to keep the battery charge up

I parked my W208 for 6 weeks late last year and whilst the battery was only 1 year old it was completely flat when I tried to unlock the car. I don't know about the W210, but the W208 has the battery in the boot, which is a real pain to open if the battery is flat.

If the car is in a secure area would locking the car without the motion sensors on extend the battery life?

What about one of them little charging solar panels that sit on the dash?

Years mate had an escort which he left for long periods and always had a flat battery, he bought one of these panels and never had a problem again:)

Hi
Thank you for your responses. The car will be parked in a secure area hence I probably don't need the alarm.

If I disconnect the battery (under the rear offside seat):

1. Can I gain entry into the car using the key within the electronic fob?
2. Apart from the ABS requiring resetting and the radio code; is there anything else that might prevent me driving away once I reconnected the battery?

Thank you.

1. Yes, use the blade into the door lock.
2. The windows will require resetting, other than that no.

There is a battery disconnect point at the front of the rear seat in the footwell.

Thank you all and especially Dieselman
