Beading rain

Looking at all your cars I need to try hard. Wax on wax off. I need to get it to hamburger bead.
Some great shots of beading liking it.
Cheers
Ben

Try other stuff other than waxes. Also several applications seem to build up the coat, and the effect. :)

My problem with beading is if you don't move the car or wipe them off they will dry on the paint and need washing anyway. This is where good 'sheeting' behaviour may be preffered - ie it just rolls off.

Prep is key though, that's where most effort is expended. Maybe after claying, washing, then a paint cleanser before the wax/sealant. I use bilt Hamber cleansing fluid to good effect before applying the final coat

I hate beading, beading means your car is the only wet one when other cars dried 2 hours earlier :(

Nothing like a little perversion to get through the day.

I'll get back in my box.....

I love a bit of beading.

Photo showing Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer top up which is showing smaller tighter beading, compared to Soft99 authentic premium which I haven't a picture of.

Turtle Wax liquid ICE synthetic wax below the Sonax

Soft99 authentic premium carnauba wax base (this has huge beads) but the brilliance isn't quite there which is why I put ICE synthetic on top for extra fire and brilliance.

No idea what that means, but it's almost poetic. I do know those beads are easy on the eye though :thumb:

When I see a reflected bright highlights in the carnauba wax it to me appears duller and lacks the intensity of sparkle (generally described as warm I think).

the synthetic has more fire like a diamond I guess, but appears more clinical and cold. So tend not to like it on the bodywork (wheels is fine).

The Sonax BSD has the best look of the three in my opinion with deep gloss and intensity of reflections, but the carnauba wax looks best in the wet with it's huge beads.

Beading is a phenomenon caused by water coming into contact with a surface that is hydrophobic. This means the surface doesn't want anything to do with the water thus forcing the water to sit in beads. It is a nice effect but when the rainwater evaporates it can leave salt scale behind. This manifests itself as little white circles and can be a pain to remove.

Sheeting is a phenomenon caused by water coming into contact with a surface that is hydrophilic or water-loving. Sheeting is the polar opposite of beading. The water droplets all join up on the paint surface to form a sheet which causes run-off due to gravity. Less water equals less scale equals less work. Permanon Platinum is a paint sealant highly regarded for its sheeting properties. Have a look at its effect when in contact with water:

Sorry to hear that Simon.

I should probably prefer sheeting on my car as the sooner the water comes off the car the sooner I can take the top down. I love the beading effect though.

I would also recommend Wetcoat as well.

Clean car as normal, spray on Wetcoat and hit with the pressure washer. The water activates it and even with nothing on the car you suddenly get beading!

Perfect to top up wax coatings every few washes.

Doesn't work with the water in my area as it leaves water marks all over the car
I haven't invested in a water softener yet.
