I used traffic film remover and a carefull pressure wash.
quick spray with WD40 and silicone, I'm pleased with the results.

Course there's not much in the way of electrical on a diesel.

I wouldn't be using water on a modern petrol engine.

I note that you have a plastic shield missing from the right side of the engine bay, did you remove this for a reason?:confused:

Will the WD40 dilute the silicone based protection?

I'm afraid I am perhaps in the minority and do not like to use WD40 as a form of barrier protection and would recommend a more modern silicone based lubricant.

I removed any electrical plugs/connecting I could see and blew them out with an air line. A squirt of WD into those connections and silicone over the plastic engine covers.
