I have these 3 colour cars. Gunmetal grey, black and polar sliver. I like cleaning these regularly aswell as polishing and waxing them. The problem I have is the black car is too much hassle to keep clean!!. The polar sliver is good as it does not get as dirty or show as much dirty as the black merc. I also have a Gunmetal car is this the best because it get dirty but you cannot see it as much as the others? Which is the best colour?. Thanks.

Choosing a colour is a matter of personal taste so we can’t help you there, however we can help you with the pros and cons associated with each colour to help you decided which is right for you.

Grey isn’t much better than black at hiding dirt and water spits/marks. Silver is better at hiding light dirt & dust, is quicker to wash, and better at hiding swirl marks and small imperfections in the paint.

Whilst silver cars hide light dirt in the warmer months, they are no better than at hiding heavy winter road dirt like mud, road salt, and so on, however it’s quicker to subsequently wash it all off,

If you buy a black or other dark coloured car, then consider buying a DI Vessel to use when rinsing the car after washing it. It will prevent water spots/marks and they’re more clearly visible on dark paint.

By using a DI Vessel for the final rinse them you don’t even need to dry the car if you don’t want to, making it much quicker to wash a car with DI Vessel than with out.

My personal favourites are black and silver.

My experience is that with silver it can be very difficult to match the paint colour if a panel is being resprayed, it may look right in the daylight but under different lighting conditions the resprayed panel may stand out.

That been said, metallic silver is arguably safer than black, because the car is more noticeable at night. In fact, I seem to remember that Peugeot made this a selling point for their 504 back in the seventies.

I do like the gunmetal grey, my previous car was obsidian black, current one is blue, and next one was potentially going to be gunmetal grey.

Silver. 🙂👍

Black cars soak up the heat on a sunny day
Which can be uncomfortable but also can degrade the paint, if you ever keep your car that long.

From an apparent cleanliness perspective, silver: all day long.

But hopeless to find in a large car park.

The true best colour car: the clean one.

It doesn't actually make that much difference, as most of the heat comes in through the glass. When I lived in Saudi, I deliberately chose a black car - everyone else was driving white ones. It was never noticeably hotter than other people's cars, and much easier to find in car parks.

These days I have all my searches set to grey or blue. Tanzanite to be specific. At a push I'd go black or silver if the right car came up.

Any other colour, no. I filter them out on AT as I would just never buy one.

I’ve come to the conclusion that if you like (or obsess over) a clean car then the colour is totally irrelevant. You’ll want to clean it at every opportunity.

However, if you’re not a ‘clean freak’ then there are colours that hide dirt more/better than others.

I stupidly went against the advice of a good friend and selected Dark Graphite Grey for my Vito rather than the Selenite grey he recommended.

I should have listened as the graphite grey (almost black) is a pest to keep clean. 😤

In my defence the only reason was the graphite grey matched the (unpainted) door handles of the van perfectly. What I should have done was opted for the selenite and had handles painted. 🙄

Pah, what does s/he know, the Graphite looks superb 👌🏻

Black is harder to keep clean but I find if you get it ceramic coated it makes washing it a bit easier. You will also get a better finish if you towel dry or finish off with pure water to eliminate hard water spots.
