Best Printer ??

What do you mean by colour solid ink.?

Laser is dry polymer toner, ink is wet ink.
Do you mean the Gelsprint machines, if so it's a wax product.

If you mean Pantone solid colours then that means it can produce precise Pantone colour shades.

Take a look at this example.

Xerox Phaser 8560 Solid Ink Colour Printer.

For good colour photographs which is best - inkjet, solid ink or colour laser?

A good Inkjet is best.

Followed by solid ink.

With traditional colour laser some way behind IMHO. I don't think lasers are up to photo quality.

Y'know, I used to think that. I had never seen a laser get anywhere close to producing photo prints. Then I picked up an HP Laserjet 4650dn, and it blew me away in terms of picture quality. Not as good as top specification inkjet, but definitely better than a cheap inkjet or any laser I'd ever seen before.

Many thanks to everyone for their input....I have decided to go for the majority vote...Epson....seen one for under £40 in Costco...as Bryce mentioned it has no mention on the box if cartridges included...so will check this first and will then check ebay amongst others for cartidge prices before buying...

Epsom are good, but the cartridges they supply with the printer are not full up, so don't last as long.
Mine takes 6 and cost about £40, unless you get cheaper copies

I upgraded from an epson to a canon as the epson one had combined colour cartidges which were 30-odd quid and knackered as soon as the first colour had gone. in addition, it was very prone to nozzle clog if left for more than a few days and the nozzle clearance cycle used a fortunes worth of ink.

the canon i have now has all separate cartridges for the colours, hasnt clogged once in three years, and is dead cheap to run via cartridge world refills :)

Lexmark are expensive. Canon are good for home use. HP are the best home/office/ink prices/quality/life.
