They tend to hide the vans on very safe fast stretches of road, where its actually safe. How about this wild alternative.....dont speed... especially in built up areas!
Strictly speaking, those are both just speed control devices. I find Google Maps' display of my actual speed alongside the current limit to be extremely useful in warning me in case I've somehow missed a change in the limit. I just wish it was active when I'm not following a route.AFAIK, all Mercedes come with two very effective devices for speed warning and control. The speedometer (required by law) will repay careful attention.
Failing that, conscientious use of the cruise control/ speed limiter function will be very effective.....
Does this mean that Waze displays actual speed and current limit even when not following a route?Waze every time, no req to have a destination...

I’ve not got that on my Google Maps, just the speed limit. Where can I find it?Strictly speaking, those are both just speed control devices. Most gantry spped limits are only advised anyway....so wont stand up in court if you exceed them.....only the ones with red rings around must be obeyed......the ones with lights at each corner are to be taken as advisement. Its surprising how many drivers don't know this as they crawl along at 40!
It started showing up a few months ago, I assume after an update. Is yours up to date?I’ve not got that on my Google Maps, just the speed limit. Where can I find it?
Yes it does.
Thanks gents - I just tried it out on a local trip. Nice. I'm going to use it for a while to get used to it.
My newest (ok, least old) car is 14 years old. These features take time to work their way into the cars I buy! This is done by many MBs now, with the current speed limit (from the satnav database or read from signs) displayed in the speedo. This is *really* handy because it picks up temporary limits too e.g. from motorway gantries.
Our C Class has it and I really miss the feature when driving our other vehicles.
I’ve got an iPhone 12 but I dont use AppleIt started showing up a few months ago, I assume after an update. Is yours up to date?
For reference - I'm using Apple Carplay from an iPhone 13. I can't say for sure whether the current speed shows up on the phone, or whether it's just the Carplay display.
Wow, seems like an excuse in many cities to increase annual income indirectly, rather than direct council tax. There's a new type of mobile speed camera used in Central London (and possibly in other places?), essentially it's a man-height tripod with what seems like a normal DSLR camera, at least in terms of shape and size, mounted on it, and on top of it another small device which I guess is a traditional Doppler-effect laser speed detector, except that it's quite small. It's operated by a single police officer wearing a yellow hi-viz, and from a distance you could easily mistake it for a surveyor taking measurements with a Theodolite. You won't be stopped on the spot, instead - if speeding - you'll get e NIP in the post, similar to fixed speed cameras. Not sure how you can get alerts for these - the ones in our area are usually deployed between 8am and 9am, presumably catching people on the school run or late to work, but this time frame is probably too short to show up on the likes of Waze.
EDIT:
I guess it's not that new:
TfL and the Met crack down on speeding in London
Transport for London (TfL) has launched five new mobile safety cameras to catch more speeding motorists in the capital.www.fleetnews.co.uk
Exactly. Well on every non-smart motorway. You must have seen "limits" like this on gantries.....they are every motorway??

Did you read the title of the thread? If you have nothing useful to add to a thread, add nothing...AFAIK, all Mercedes come with two very effective devices for speed warning and control. The speedometer (required by law) will repay careful attention.

Isn’t this via the Command Traffic Sign Assist function monitoring for roadside signs? This is done by many MBs now, with the current speed limit (from the satnav database or read from signs) displayed in the speedo. This is *really* handy because it picks up temporary limits too e.g. from motorway gantries.
