Best Speed Camera Warning App

Sorry but I can't refrain from this any longer.

The best speed cam app/device is - Drive within the rules and you will be good as will those around in your vicinity.:D

You'll be passed by quite a lot of other cars on motorways, though...

Wales, 20mph absolute bloody nightmare, school’s, play ground’s, parks I get it but it’s driving me nuts I have two roads locally I take my bikes to for some real fun, I would love a gadget that spotted a camera van, I have no points on my license so other than two roads I always stick to the speed limit, one thing I can see is trackers from insurance companies being on every vehicle I can get my bike insurance at half the price with one fitted, the look on their faces would be priceless at 140mph.

On the motorway I stick to around 65 mph but I’m struggling on some on the once fast-ish London roads which are now 30mph (A40 elevated) and the Finchley Road/Swiss Cottage (A41) which is 20mph.

Yep the yellow HADECS cameras are mounted off to the side, although nearly always alongside a gantry (I guess because they need the same power and comms. connections).

And because they can be placed alongside the speed restriction signs (if there are any) on the gantry?

I've heard too many stories of drivers who simply didn't slow down quickly enough and got a NIP or FPN after passing the speed restriction sign at just over the (temporary) speed limit.

Sure, but you could equally argue that you don't need the amber reserve fuel light ("just watch the fuel gauge"), or the red coolant overheating light ("just watch the temp gauge"), etc.

People do unintentionally make mistakes or get distracted.

Use Waze. Almost always. Even when driving on my regular trips.
My only criticism is warnings at motorway speed happen about 200m away where they can use a gun from further away. As in, I would like the warning to be further back on higher speed roads

Agreed, you need to keep an eye on the map. Usually a speed van will have LOADS of reports as everyone despises them.

One of the annoying things on Waze is people reporting highways England ‘traffic officer’ cars as police.

Yes, the 20mph main roads is a struggle but I always put the cruise control on at 20

Yes, people do make "unintentional mistakes." However, with some people, quite a few buy these gadgets to driver over the speed limit and slow down where there is a cam/etc.

Re warning lights re fule and water temp - treat it like speed warning sign posted on next to speed cams. There would have been speed signs before that but now days they post them right next to the speed signs other than motorways where most will be aware re 70mph limits when all is good. There are always multiple speed signs ie to warn/remind people

In new areas to me, at times you can miss a speed sign as they vary quite often - if I'm unsure I will slow down but these days speed signs everywhere and the sat nav without speed cams does state speed on that stretch of road - but with that you need to lookout yourself as well as info may be out of date.

It's not the limits, which can be ignored where safe to do so (and are so by many locals), it's the enforcement where there is no hazard that is the problem...

I don't despise the vans; they're an irritating but unavoidable fact of life driving nowadays. I agree about the 'Traffic Officer' vehicles, though, and wish more drivers were aware that they have no speed control function or authority whatever.

Quite common on normal roads with fixed speed limit signs too ... e.g. NSL approaching a 40 limit, lots of people would still be doing over 40 as they passed the sign and slow down after that.

Of course with the VSL on motorways you get a grace period between a new limit being displayed and the cameras activating (minimum of 60 seconds, IIRC).

IIRC the current laser guns have a range of about 1 mile so on long straight roads they can probably get you before you even see them.

You get tailbacks on the motorways too where one is cruising along at 60 or so and nobody will go past.

I use Waze in the Uk - in France and Switzerland I use Radar Bot. Just dont show the map on my display.

Radarbot - its free, I used in over Europe and also in the far east aswell as always in the UK.

It beats Waze all day long.
