Best way to sell ML63

I'm all for laissez-faire but am I the only one wondering if this is for real as you must be aware of the health issues caused by exhaust fumes in London. " 4.9 to 6.8mpg ...in Mayfair " What!! As Lord Sugar might say " You're having a larf " albeit at our expense.
I couldn't resist showing this thread to my wife who almost collapsed with laughter at the absurdity of it.

Why on earth would you want a car like that for driving in London. Hang on, don't bother answering that.

Diesel DPF issues

I drive a diesel, do lots of short runs , i.e. 3 miles to the train station and 3 miles back, but have yet to experience the supposed 'horrendous problems' you mention above.

......
.

I wasn't referring to the older E320 CDI's etc.

The Diesel issue is the modern "DPF" issue which is well-documented by Green Flag, RAC, AA and all the usual suspects. It's resulted in many legal claims and returned cars, typically bought for the Inner City School run.

"If you're buying a new car and will use it mainly for town-based, stop/start driving you’d be wise to avoid diesels fitted with a particulate filter" says the AA here:

Central London buyers

Porsche and Range Rover always used to reckon that Central London buyers were THE big target market for 911's and Range Rovers....

Central London mpg

My S500 was previously owned by an Embassy for the exclusive use of a prince. (chauffeur driven, obviously)

Over three years, at 2,000 miles a year, it averaged 13 mpg, at an average speed of 9mph.

A curious life. As the MD of Rolex admits " You don't buy a Rolex to tell the time."

I was thinking similarly... I apologise profusely to the OP for poking fun but the essence of their posts seems to be 'gosh I am very surprised that my 6 litre car only gets 7mpg whilst it sits in traffic'. I had to laugh at the prospect of regularly doing '15-minute local trips in Mayfair'. Mayfair is less than one mile by one mile and thus can be crossed on foot in 20 minutes.

Then I saw mention of the neighbours having "Mercedes/Bentley/A-M/Range Rovers etc" and that explained it. No one would dare break ranks and walk, or even get a fit-for-purpose car like a Prius. Wouldn't look right at the school gates :o

Just before Christmas I was walking past Covent Garden one Saturday afternoon and saw the astonishing sight of a small side street full of über-expensive cars, all stuck in traffic going nowhere, at least during the 5 minutes it took us to walk the length of the street and turn off down towards the Strand. The cars included a Phantom, a Wraith, a Mulsanne, several Porsches including a Turbo, plus many more besides. All were new or nearly new and there must have been several million worth all in the one queue together. All we're doing approximately 0mpg. No idea why they were all there in the same place at the same time, maybe some fancy event had just finished. I don't seem to see such cars whenever I'm driving in and out of London so it leaves me wondering whether some of these cars ever get above 30mph.

I work on the Strand and the traffic there is normally going at about my (brisk) walking speed. It's nice because if I see a 'special' car I get a decent look at it, rather than just seeing it flash past :)

I know there was a hint of doubt from one post, but....

Simon - both a wonderful source of information and the previous owner had a problem with the air suspension leading to replacing the compressor. I'll try and watch what happens to the height when getting out of the car

How I generally write out an advert:

List the particulars (MOT, how many keys, service history)

List the optional extras

List the service intervals and where they took place

List any recent work (less than a year) and what brand of tyres are on it

...QUOTE]

Agree with all of above, keep listing as simple as possible use bullet points.

If you list on line include lots of good clear pictures, don't use pics that have camera shake, lens flare or are dark/lacking in detail. Don't forget interior pics, handbooks and keys. Make sure the car is clean before photographing, remove junk from door bins and such.

Saturday afternoon before Christmas, Covent Garden? That'll be the matinee performance of the Nutcracker.

£500 gets you four tickets. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with the kids.

Yes, this.
Amazes me how often you see pics of dirty cars for sale. Clean the inside, clean the mats, take all your own "junk" out of it. Don't be tempted to "photoshop"/HDR the pics clean, clear, in focus pictures make a huge difference imho.

I confess that when I was looking at the ML63s last October the one I loved immediately - and eventually bought was the one with the best photos of a car that had been scrubbed so clean! The visuals made all the difference. I still don't think I've every read the accompanying text that scheduled the equipment etc - just took all that for granted.

(But I should add that my two little daughters were sold instantly by the rear TV screens. Hard to emphasise how majorly important that was in a family decision!)

Before it's sold, don't forget to take it on a proper drive, to Really enjoy it - they handle well for such a big car, and they sound wonderful :thumb:

pics is key. When I sell cars on eBay I use Photobucket.com. I upload atleast 25 / 30 pics of the car, inside, outside, engine, boot, service history / paperwork, and upload them into photobucket.

I then create the add on eBay, switch it over to html and copy the html links from Photobucket into the advert. This means I do not have to pay for extra pics, but the advert now contains tons of pics for future buyers to see.

I always want to see lots of pics when I buy a car. Every car you want is always on the other side of the country so going to view is hard so pics are important.

I take pics all of damage, scratches etc, I always ensure the car is waxed / clean inside and out, and always show every piece of documentation. This means I dont get the ` as not described` when the future buyer turns up. Always remove any private plates etc first.
