Best Wheel Colour for a Black CLS

Wow thanks Tony, good find!

I know it won't be like the real thing (polished or chromed), but would be the best solution for me... Having said that, I'll see a sample in the shop and see how I like it, if I don't like it, will go with something else.

From all I've read so far, polished aluminium is a pain to maintain!

Next question, any recommended refurbishers? I've checked Lepsons, but they don't seem to do polished lips, Diamond Alloys seems to be very good too...

You could try Diamond Styling in Sevenoaks Diamond Styling UK Ltd. They have refurbed a couple of sets of wheels for me including some polished and lacquered face turbines. They have a massive lath to mount the wheels on for machining.

They can only turn them so many times and you can't just do a small area like you can if you're going to powder coat them, there's a reason why it's difficult to get wheel insurance on diamond cut wheels.

All true Ian - these guys seem to know their stuff when it comes to machining and did explain to me there is a limit to how many times it can be done. Luckily the turbines they did for me didn't appear to have been done before so all good. They do not do powder coating, they only do wet paint finish. All down to preference but I think wet paint gives a much better finish to powder coating.

Would certainly agree with that but will admit I'm very biased having had some very similar wheels with exactly finish donshl is looking at on some E39 wheels many years ago and swore blind I would never have them again.

Might have been unlucky and tyre manufacturers seem far more interested in rim protection nowadays than they did then but it was the worm that got under the lacquer in the deep flat part that was most depressing.

Totally agree - I inherited the turbines as they were on my E55 when I bought it. I never thought they suited the car so got some amg III's and had them refurbed by Diamond Styling in simple silver paint finish. Then had the turbines done, they came out great but I sold them. I think a machined lacquered face looks great but just take too much looking after and care on our roads and high granite kerbs in London:wallbash:

Anyway back on track - colour wise I would probably play safe and go for a dark silver graphite colour on the centre section.

Thanks for the all the input guys, I am quite firmly against getting the wheels diamond cut (as they originally were) with the all the problems faced by them, so am going to get the lip done it powder chrome and the centres done in anthracite with bit of added "pop"

Went to drop the wheels off at paintituk.com based in Billericay yesterday. They have a good workshop and seems like a bunch of competant lads.

I called up Diamond styling and the price per wheel that they quoted was quite high (much higher than Lepsons)

So next Saturday I'll get the wheels and going to keep my fingers crossed

18" AMG Turbines will be up for sale soon :D

Anyone know where I can find some Kleemann centre caps to fit these? The current ones seem to be a bit bigger...

Also I might be needing 10mm and 15 mm spacers

I used these guys they made me a custom set of spacers and machined my drag wheels to change the bolt hole diameter. They may also make you a set of caps otherwise you may need to go to Kleemann

Thanks Paul! These guys seem to be quite near to the place where I'm getting the wheels refurbished from!

I tried Kleemann website, but their online shop seems to be closed!

Update on the wheels!

Had a call today saying they are not ready as they weren't happy with the finish of the barrels so they are redoing it! Apparently the centres look amazing :bannana:

I'm happy that they decide to re do it themselves as it saves time me asking to do it! So far happy with service :thumb:

Just want them before next Saturday!

Looks like I need 10mm spacers on the rear as the offset of the Kleemann wheels are 35 and the CLS wheels are 25mm. Anyone have a spare for sale;-)

So I finally had time last weekend to go and pick up the front wheels from the shop :bannana:

Fitted new tyres to the rears and was going to swap the front, so arriving at the shop, the guys took off the front wheel and fitted the tyre to the Kleemann rim, and went to fit to the car and :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

IT DIDN'T CLEAR THE MASSIVE AMG CALIPER :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: Being a split rim, the caliper is hitting the inner lip of the where the wheel centre bolts on!

So they had to take off the tyre again and refit to the old rim...

It seems that it would fit a 25mm spacer, but is it wise to use such a big spacer on the front?

The Kleemann wheels are ET35 and the AMG's are 25
