Greetings!

I understand that these can be "switched" for driving on the right.

Anybody know how to do this? Have been through the manual and can't find any reference.

Help would be very much appreciated

Steve

its a peice of cake. you need to look at the back of the light unit which has the yellow warning traingle on it. you should find this unit inside your light housing so you may need to unscrew the cover. it will pop off by hand after a quarter turn.

then you have a lever on the side of this unit. push it up, or down from which ever way it is now and off you trot. remember to do the opposite when you get back here.

My dealer showed me how to do it on mine. Its a 2second job but you need really thin bendy arms! and maybe a torch.

both lights need to be done.

But be careful, my "Switch Lever" broke off mine after a few uses. New unit is VERY expensive, although it was replaced under warranty after an arguement.

These seems to be a common thing...The E39 BMW has a similar lever for European running, and my friend uses his a lot (parents are ex-pats living near Brussels). His has broken twice in the last 2 years.

Good point. I did recall him saying its not a very big lever and you had to be careful. I actually havent had a look for it, as I am not doing what i was doing so i didnt need to, but he took off the cover of the light houseing and shone the torch at the unit i needed find the switch alongside. to be honest its a tight squeeze in my engine bay, altho he did say they dont have much trouble with other makes of the lesser engine sizes in the SLK.

The right side has less room then the left by looking at it.

Apparently it revoloves the bulb by 15' degrees.

I am a bit convinced that my lights are not that well aligned, i think they shine into other peoples eyes coz i do get the odd flash.

You guys are so helpful!

Just taken a quick look - is the lever white?

Bit nervy now - maybe it will be back to the old piece of masking tape! lol

Regards

Steve

P.S. I get the odd flash - but that has little to do with my headlights....

dunno, its on the side of the box that holds the lamp. the box has a yellow warning triangle on it. its inside the light housing.

i was unable to see my lever but i could clearly see the box with the triangle on it, i was told the lever is on one side of that box and it moves the bulb round.

Mechy told me, if its up, push it down, and the same on the other side, and the reverse to reset them back.

Take it to your dealer and smile. (Better still send wife/GF with instructions to look helpless.)

Dealer did mine FOC. Which is just as well because on switching back they broke the adjuster!

They would probably use this to their advantage and charge double as they are after all "Stealers"...

Could always try sending wife and girlfriend at the same time. Any charges would then seem quite unimportant. :p

Called the service manager at Westwoods (Blackburn) MB Dealer who told me to pop in and he would get somebody to do it for me!

Hear a lot of bad things about dealers here so it's nice to give a Pat-On-The-Back for a change!

Mind you, was amusing to tell him how to reset the engine on his E270..... :D

Thanks for all the help

That's Xenons for you ...

I don't bother personally, I mean how many foreign cars do you see over here with black tape on their (halogen) headlights?

Precisely!
