There is no road tax in France to be pedantic....but there is an emissions tax... which recently increased.. cars producing over (a quite low) 194 g per km now have to find 60,000 Euros....but only when they are first registered....not annually..... no wonder the place is crawling with small engined rubbish.

France not only has a reformed subsidy scheme for electric vehicles since the beginning of the year. A penalty tax, the so-called "malus ecologique" for polluting and heavy combustion vehicles, has also been increased to keep said vehicles off the road.
