Quite nice ........but at ET46, 7.5J wheel fitted with 225/55/17 boots, will they go on W124 300TE without any problem?

4mm! OK What EXACTLY is ET and how would being 4mm in or out make a difference? Is it in diameter or width or distance of extreme outer wheel face in relation to the car hub face?

ET is also known as "wheel offset". It is the distance between a plane running through the centre line of the wheel/tyre and the plane of the mating surface where the wheel fits the hub. The following diagram may help. Look for the measurement in red. This is the wheel offset or ET:

Ace! That diagram has spoken louder than a thousand words! Thanks a lot for the most useful info in this respect!

I agree , that is a great diagram Tony ...

Thanks tony a nice picture,,I hope you will that not mind if I use it sometimes..

So the guy is left with 4mm, does that matt on a 124 as I see that the tyres were narrower than the ones on the chart, they my just rub on full lock is the best that I can come up with

They're a very different offset to the 7.5 x 17" AMG wheels for a W124. But then I think that combo tramlines quite badly

The difference in rim width between a standard W124 alloy and these wheels is 1" or 25mm. So in theory the offset should change by 12mm or so

Well, my 7.5 inches wheels have an offset of 35 and the inside of the wheel JUST misses the 4 pot front fixed calipers by a mere smidgen.

I guess that maybe the earlier single pot sliding caliper may be less bulky and the wheels may indeed fit. BUT I would find a wheel depot and pretend you are buying wheels and get them to fit one onto the front of your actual car and see the clearance for yourself.

It is only a matter of jacking the front of the car and putting a blank wheel on with a couple of bolts - does not need to have a tyre on it.

You could try several wheels if one was no good - at least you will be more educated about the matter.

Say thank you and you will think about it. I am surprised more people do not shop around like that, instead of buying wrong wheels which so many people seem to do.

Good point KTH but most of these 'wheel' places stock the modern look "silly-boy-racer-xri type" wheels which are not suited to the humble W124 marque. I tried one local place recently who claimed to be a MERC EXPERT and insisted the wheels he had in stock would be OK on my 300TE - tried them on and they looked terrible! Shame the real pro's are far and few - all they want now is to sell the product and see the back of you!

The tyres in that first image look a lot like 225/55R17 which is WAY too big for the 124 :) Should use 225/45R17
