Any idea if there is one available for a 2005 CLK???? I have been told by stealers that it only works on 2006 onward cars, but my car is a facelift 2005.... does that make no difference?

From what I read (probably on that thread linked above) the key will work on any models with the updated EIS (post flip-style key) but will only be issued for vehicles that were originally shipped with that style key until stock of the boring ones has run out.

I and fellow member Avantgarde have been after these keys from the very beginning and they still are not available BUT can easily be programmed to work on any car that has a electronic thob without the flick blade.

However, Avantardge has managed to source the new style key via USA BUT it has a slightly different frequency (as it is US spec) which has resulted in the range for locking/unlocking not being optimal at the moment and he even got it for less than half the UK price.

Yes, I can confirm I have the new key working i my 2002 W203.

It's the US spec key so it has the funny looking red Panic Button.

Unfortunatley I believe US spec cars use a different Radio Frequency for their keys so although I can lock / unlock and operate the remote boot release this only works when operated near the IR receiver on the drivers door.

My original keys still work correctly from all around the vehicle.

Check the other thread above for more information, however I've been informed that we won't be able to get our hands on these new keys until about March.

As soon as they are available let me know pls...;) :)

Hey thanks for the replys guys, so basically if i can get hold of a uk spec chrome key it can be easily programed? where and how can this be done???

I ordered mine from USA a week ago, hopefully it won't have this range problem, I will let you know when I get it!

No they come pre-programmed. I had to provide my VIN number to order they key, it came with the blade pre cut and programmed.

Unfortunately, my guesses are that it will have the range issue which Avantgarde has due to the frequency. However, at least you get it at a good price where in the UK we probably looking at £160 (ish).

Bhav: As Avantgarde said you will only be able to get hold of the chrome key from the UK when DC UK supersede/phase out the previous generation key which Avantgarde believes will be in March. Stealers of course will deny all knowledge in the mean time and claim that it cannot be programmed unless you find a very helpful/knowledgeable Parts Manager such as Jay73...;)

I want one :bannana:

Just an observation....

I had a hire car recently (C180K) that had one of these new keys and I found it quite a bit heavier than the current key.

Just sayin'!!

Yes the key is heavier, I feel that is has a nice weight to it, has a quality feel to it. Incidentally I always keep my car key separate from my other keys.

Same here - my thob/key is attached to a nice quality MB key ring that I have with a leather solid base that has the MB Star (in metal) fixed to it... Previous generation key was very light in terms of weight.

I hate carrying lots of keys so have a "pull apart" keyring - when I'm in the office my house keys etc. stay in the car and I only carry the car key. Hence the weight is 'key' <groan! > to me

My body does a good enough job of ruining the cut of my suits thanks very much.... :D :bannana:

Out of interest what type of key does the B Class have?

Same as the standard C class (but no boot open button - obviously!)
