Bluetooth woes

I decided against paying £300 for a brand new bluetooth phone module for my 2007 CLK and opted for V4 SAP module for £100 from Germany through Ebay.

When I try pairing it with my Galaxy S4 it takes two or three attempts for the module to find the phone, and get the 16 digit pairing code. Then I get a message "unable to pair with MB APD" and occasionally "incorrect PIN or passcode".

Annoyingly the 16 digit number is different every time I get that far, so I have to go through the whole pairing process again, every time it fails.

Anyone any tips or clues as to what's going wrong before I tear out the remaining tufts of hair on my head?

These Silver ones are notorious for pairing issues
That doesn't help, but you're not alone....

I have no help to offer (having bought an old black 'puck' which works well with only a 5 digit PIN) but its not (solely) you

Good luck

When I bought my SAP v4 from Ebay.de, it came with a Dutch manual. I found an English manual on the internet which I could forward to you if that would help?

I have an instruction page which I got off the internet (thanks Codger49)

This is the module I've got.

I went to my local MB dealer for advice and they weren't familiar with it, but said the smaller black type that use the 67872 (?) standard code pairs up easily, which is presumably what you have, fabes.

In a nutshell the phone and module do see each other (eventually) but the phone says the pairing code given by the module is incorrect. I just don't know if the fault is with the phone or the module.

A couple of times my phone picked "MB telephone" which I couldn't pair to, but after some frustrated button pushing it actually dialed someone/somewhere. They didn't answer.

Yes that's the plain BT module which I have ( the phone remains the primary device)
What you have is the more comprehensive SAP system that takes over the phone and leaves it dormant.

Does your phone allow this, as modern handset security and OS have developed to ensure phones cannot be remotely accessed

The Command online team would be your best bet from here on in....

The Galaxy S4 apparently has rSAP as standard, which is one of the reasons I chose the SAP module. There may be a setting to enable/disable rSAP on the phone but I can't find anything.

I'll try Commandonline and see if they have an answer.

My copy of the MB internal use only SAP v4 manual states, for option C equipment (CLK up to 2009) that

"Depending on the mobile phone used, you may have to confirm a connection query from the telephone module on the mobile phone used. The mobile phone must be set to "Automatic"/"authorised:yes"; see the mobile phone operating instructions"
