My car has had a scan and the mysterious Boost Pressure Regulator Fault has re-appeared.

This interlinks with sharp rev changes at higher revs (not gear changes) and most recently limp home.

I'm thinking that variable vanes on Turbo or the actuator are seizing?

1. Am I likely to be needing to save for a new Turbo or could there be a simple solution still?

2. Is it worth trying the Turbo cleaner additives or are these black magic?

Thanks in advance

A rather fed up David

Don't get down. Turbo problem is not as bad as many people think

Firstly. Make sure it's the turbo. Not the actuator.

Next you could try forte turbo cleaner (mixed results)

Better if you can remove the turbo and scrub it yourself.

If all else fails. A new seal kit is about 100 quid if nothing is damaged. Or bearings are not kaput.

Or recon turbo. 450 ish

Mb will be looking arround 1500.

Turbo cleaners sometimes work and as Twistedmind posts, Forte is the best of them so worth a try.

Used to get all our turbo's reconditioned at AET Turbo's Normanton 01924 894171. I've taken all sors of stuff there over the years and never been charged more than £400 and more importantly never had any comebacks on any we had done there which must be hundreds.

Last one I took was off my Nephews BMW 530d about a year ago and full refurb was £385

Hope that helps

Thanks Ian - I'll give the Turbo Cleaner ago as a first step....

Just a heads up to others......

Please dont use google and turbo cleaner, it will show some people using Mr Muscle oven cleaner.

Under no circumstances let any oven cleaning products near your turbo they love to eat Aluminium.

I have taken apart turbos that have been cleaned with all sorts of household or industrial strength products, the best way is to strip it down and use elbow grease and care.
