Hi

One of the kids laptops is now showing "BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

It is a Dell Inspiron N5030 running Windows 7 Home Premium

I have tried Google but without success, I cannot find the product key and dont have a recovery disc.

Can anyone help???

Thanks,

Hi

Update:

I have just found the product key, under the battery:o:o

So do i download a 32 or 64bit version of the recovery disk and go for it??????

The easiest would be to rebuild using the recovery disc - assuming there is nothing you want on it data-wise. If there is, you will want to purchase a 2.5" caddy, take the hard disk out and plug it in to that, and plug that into another computer to copy off what is required.

I wasn't aware you could download Dell recovery discs?

You can use either - if the laptop has more than 3GB RAM, might be better off with 64bit although there isn't a huge difference for most people.

You could just copy in the missing file as a repair job but you need to find an article on how to do it.

Sometimes missing files like that can indicate a hardware issue - usually the hard disk - so it when you re-install from scratch, you can see when you format the disk if it goes through OK.

Update:

Hi

I took out the hard drive and it was empty, I downloaded a Windows 7 installation and loaded it on and it is all up and running perfectly so far.

I have been at this since 11am:mad:

Thanks for the help
