born again biker - maybe

Sports bikes do nothing for me.
It's not the knee down danger adrenaline I enjoy.
I enjoy the open air and wind in my face.
Not all wrapped up in a dead cow hunched over an uncomfortable cramped piece of metal.

Don't get me wrong, I think sports bikes look fantastic and I appreciate the thrill factor.

I'll always have a bike as I am a true biker(been riding since I was 7 or 8), just because I don't have a common sports bike doesn't mean I'm not :D

People think I'm an old man because I've got the goldwing yet it's the cbr, gsxr , r1,zx10 riders that are the old men lol

Just because they go faster doesn't make you more of a 'biker'.

I'd actually love another trials bike as I get the buzz more from the challenge of that, just don't have the time or space to keep one.
 
I love the sensations of biking, the acceleration and (relative) freedom from traffic jams. I've been on bikes for pleasure and commuting for more than 10 years. I've had my license since 2000 and have been on a bike till recently where I was t boned by an errant driver - he mistook a filter lane green and jumped the lights and drove into me. Haven't been on a bike since. The damage to me appeared to be slight, but I still have problems with my foot. The bike was a write-off, the foot peg carrier was snapped by the force of the impact through my armoured boot. Rear subframe damaged, forks were bent, tank was dented etc. It was my 4th "off". After the previous accidents, I had time to think about mitigating measures I should take to remain, sunny side up, but This last one I can honestly say that I had absolutely not contributed to the accident, apart from being there. That has helped me decide to give up motorcycling. Each accident has taken me longer to recover and has been more serious, I may never recover from the next one.

Added the sports screen, cylinder head guards, high comfort seat and top box.

Excellent bike so far :)

They are really nice bikes.
Fond memories of a brand new r80/7 when they first came out. I did a lot of miles on that bike.
 
Love my bike, only got a Suzuki GSX-R600 K4 but i love it. Got an MTC can on which sounds awsome, its a good starter bike bike but ive held onto it for 5 years. Only cost me 3k back in 2009!
 
Went out for my first ride of 2015 and fell off at the second corner. Not quite sure how, but almost certainly pilot error. Pulling away at a T-junction I high-sided @ 5mph. Dusted myself down and went home again to inspect the damage. Scratched left engine casing, exhaust, clutch, indicator, windscreen. Smeg. That's rather dented the enjoyment I once had for biking.

Small consolation but A. you were unhurt and rode away and B. we have all had silly but costly errors……..mine was when I wasn't paying attention and let the bike overbalance whilst putting it away; it tipped away from me. Kick yourself, look out for used replacements (or ignore the damage) and get back on.
 
Get back in the saddle Will - and don't be phased by a slight mishap. Restoring your confidence and sense of enjoyment is more important at this point. Buff out the scratches later...

Don't let it out you off. You have hurt pride and a few scrapes on the bike. Both can be repaired.

Try to analyse what happened, and get on the bike and ride again.

There are only two types of riders of big bikes: those who have dropped it, and those who will. You're now in the former group :thumb:
 
I second your "ps" statement. I tried again at age 61. Reflexes too slow.
Result: bike in ditch, me in hospital, broken arm, dislocated shoulder, battered and bruised. My GP said, "You know, another six inches and it would have been your
neck that snapped".
Point taken.

All of the previous comments apply.
In my case overconfidence is usually the cause of any hairy moments.
 
In terms of what happened, most likely scenario is that with a combination of cold tyres and dirty road surface, you pulled away, tipped the bike into the turn with a little too much power on, the back started to let go and either it found grip of its own accord or you instinctively snapped the throttle shut at which point it spat you over the top.

It's easier said than done, but if you had kept the power on, a slow speed low-side hurts less as you don't have as far to fall ;)
 
I think you're right Phil. It's hard to be certain, but I think I felt the back end slip then backed-off the throttle. Very annoying, not so much for the money (add damaged helmet and top box to the previous list) but it's spoilt the pleasure I had for biking. I think I'll book another tuition day. I knew my slow speed control was a weakness, now I have the reason to fix it.
