Hi guys,

I am normally a viewer on the forums and like to read a lot, also thanks to you guys I wanted to join the club and bought myself a C220D in Night/Navy Blue AMG Premium.

To cut the story short, I fell in love with one Merc that I saw on Mercedes's branch website and the close branch to where I work mentioned they could bring it down no problem as its close enough.

Anyways, I was very excited as its my first Merc... I asked the guy to get it ready for pick up on Friday Maximum (I chose and talked about PCP etc. on Tuesday) so the salesman said its not an issue and it will be ready (I trusted them and did not test drive the car sadly).

So I go to pick it up on Friday 25th of October and they made me wait 2+ hours as they were serving customers and I thought no worries I can wait. Then a friend of mine noticed scratches that were repaired and a chip mark or the layer of paint has completely come off, due to clearly bad repairs, just above the wheel (under the car). Additional to that, the spray paint was done so poorly that you can see some bubbles appearing and clearly wasn't done right. At the time it was dark so I told the salesman and he mentioned thats not a problem and can be fixed, so he gave me the number of the guy that they deal with to fix/paint their cars.

Mind you the next day it was Saturday so I noticed the bad paint job which was done on the car, I call the repair guy to ask if he can have a look, he asked me to come down on Monday to the same branch as he was fixing some cars for the same people. I go there, he checks the car and find out the whole driver side was fixed/done and he even mentioned that there was rust above the wheel thats why the paint came off like that, because the filler was of a bad quality too. He even mentioned the job was so poor, his 3 year old daughter does better than this lol so I was like ok time to chase the salesman.

A full week of chasing the guy who sold me the car and he mentioned that the managers refuse to approve any sort of repair/fix and they claim its not their fault its the other branch, they then came back to say it was done to Mercedes standards like wtf? are you serious? but I bought the car from you not the other branch.

I am about to go down there today and I know it wont end well as I feel cheated and very upset with the fact that they are trying to buy time and not returning my calls. It has been just over a week, any advise guys?

Sorry about the wall of text and thanks in advance.

Reject the car
^^^^^^^
What he said.

Redoing the entire side of the car properly (using new metal, not filler) is ££££. Not a quick fix at the salesperson's discretion.

Sorry about your experience... reject it.

Do you have anything in writing from the body shop?

Reject the car and if the salesman gets shirty escalate it to the dealer principle.

As the others have said, reject it and find another.
There are plenty of very good examples out there, don't be fobbed off with something that is sub-standard - it will probably come back and bite you later on.

Lesson learned I'm afraid, never trust a salesman.
100% throw it back at them and get your money back.
I really hope you get a satisfactory outcome

Thank you so much guys, I appreciate the replies. So I ended up going to them, I spoke to one of the salesmen and explained that I will need to speak to his manager, he was very helpful and called him so he made phone calls etc. to the other branch. He asked me what the problem was so I told him its for the best to show him which I did, he then claimed he was only told on Friday so he needs 2 days or so to sort it out. I took a friend with me and he mentioned "I recommended to my friend to just reject the car" he went almost pooped himself and was defensive saying no no, no need as this is only cosmetic issue and can be fixed, I just need some time to find the person liable to pay for the repairs" thats when I said I'm sorry but you got 2 days mostly, after that I don't really care as I was chasing you guys for more than a week. Hell, I even suggested to give me another car of the exact same model and features at the cost of my favourite colour, he said once again don't worry the car will be fixed.

I am in love with the colour and once they resolve the issue I will post some pictures, I just love the colour so much I am willing to be as helpful as a customer gets but just be straight up honest about things.

It will never be right, certainly not as good as ex factory paint and finish ! Ignore their predictable reactions. You will be regretting it if you do not reject the car, do not let your common sense be blinded by colour blindness.

A good body shop can get a better finish than factory finish. New car finish is shite. Full of orange peel. When vehicles go through our place for inspection we can generally tell under the lighting if they have been painted to a good standard that isn't factory. New Ford transits are really bad from factory full of orange peel.

You've learned a hard lesson. Never buy a car without seeing it, particularly handing over any money. This car should be rejected and if it's not resolved in 1 day, get onto MB Customer Services.

It's not a Ford Transit and in any case there is no guarantee and every likelihood that it will never find it's way to a decent body shop , reject it and don't take the risk

....if it's not resolved in 1 day, get onto MB Customer Services.

If it's an MB Approved Used car, then he can replace it with another within 30 days no questions asked, though my understanding is the OP wants this particular car so prefers to have it sorted rather than replaced?

Take the advice of others on here and reject the car. There’s loads of others out there in the right condition.

Thank you guys, you are such a great help.

So I received a call from the manager as he promised, clearly sh**ing himself. So he explained to me that it will be arranged to be sorted tomorrow, and explained to me that it will be going into their workshop and any issues that I pointed out will be fixed, they will also inspect the car fully "Again" as he mentioned the cars do get inspected and checked then serviced before giving to the customer.

I then replied with, what if I am not happy still, will you change the car to another one of the same model AMG premium? he goes to me, lets hope it doesn't get to that then after insisting with him, he told me that we will talk about it at the time and sort it out. He kept on going about we care about making customers happy bla bla bla....

Also to answer the question of someone earlier, yes it is a Mercedes approved branch sales nothing but Mercs and has the logo etc. on it.

UPDATE 1:
The salesman who sold the car to me claims it is very hard to change it or reran finance again, as he said " You have the right to change the car if the car is not working or is not fit for purpose is the law. The car is mechanically safe and has no problems, so if it is fine mechanically then its hard to change it" otherwise Mercedes will ask for a report and will be long lol what kind of BS is this?

Also will this effect my credit score? if I re-ran finance or change the car? as my finance is with Mercedes too.

Update 2:

The salesman backed his statement by linking me the following:
which.co.uk/consumer-rights/advice/the-second-hand-car-i-bought-has-a-problem-what-are-my-rights#can-i-get-a-refund-for-a-faulty-new-or-used-car

How true is that?

If you are going to let them try to sort it out then I would get him to confirm in writing that if you are not completely satisfied they will allow you to reject the vehicle

Can we ask who the dealer is ?
