Brabus Performance Upgrade

Chap at work here has an 18 month old 200CDI saloon with a Carlson chip - fitted by a local garage

He has failed to see any economy due to trying out the performance too much by his own admission as I looked at a when I got my car earlier this year - he's not around to ask if he had an eco chip, BUT he did tell me improved performance was a supposed benefit

BTW - off to Cadburys World this weekend 4 up in the Merc and will see 54mpg plus at 80 on the motorway, but then I have the semi auto box nobody likes - I see 40 plus around town

Fabes

Thats more like it, i would consider a diesel if i knew i would get those kind of figures, although i would sacrifice a little for a normal auto (i haven't driven a car with one but have a unimog and a couple of trucks, ok untill you're trying to manouver in tight spaces)

My C200 CDi (same sized engine, lower state of tune) auto estate has averaged 46 mpg since I reset the counter a few thousand miles ago. It shows around 35 from cold in heavy town traffic and gets about 55 on the motorway, although I have recorded 62 on a 100+ mile cross country trip when I wasn't in a hurry, just keeping up with traffic

So how many miles do you get from a tank? 54mpg would be 630 odd miles !I had a C200cdi w203 estate while mine was in the dealer. The average was at 32 when I got in it.

Here's hoping the Carlsson Eco, without the right foot, helps my mpg a tad.

Cheers Adam

Driving style and conditions make all the difference - no matter how steady I drive if I'm working in the centre of hull for a week my E270 will show <20mpg from the cold start (fuel driven cabin heater) and stop-stop traffic. Working out of town and with lots of motorway in the mix I'll see 36-38mpg driving hard, 40+ sticking near the speed limits.

Got the Carlsson Eco in the end - quick 10 min job to fit it. I gave up after 45mins. The control unit holder in the front fuse box area is supposed to pull out but its screwed in from a pretty much inaccesible place. Any tips ?I'll try again on the w/e in the daylight when I can see it better.Cheers, Adam

I contacted Brabus through their site to enquire about this performance upgrade over 3 weeks ago. Still waiting for a reply, so, will now look at the alternatives. Let us know how you get on with the Carlsson.

Dunno - I don't fill the tank - carry all the fuel around?- usually £20 or so, which is good for 250 to 300 miles unless on a long haul.

Actually got over 52mpg on the weekend and just did 190miles today going from 3 of our stores near the M4 and got another 52 - so on a mainly motorway run - thats average

PS - nobody mention chocolate for a week!!!

Still waiting for the Carlsson Eco to arrive - ( for the 2nd time )

Would be interesting to know the actual fuel consuption figures for your car as stated in the technical data. They don't show it on the merc site any more. I'll bet they are much better than the estate.

Today I had 24 in town (from cold), 41 !!! at 65mph on the motorway, averaged 33.6 over 75 miles (55 miles on the motorway)

I also noticed a fair amount of smoke in the following cars headlights when I accelerated, hardish - is that normal ?

Cheers

Hi Adam,

I get 30 around town, and low 40's on the M'way.

Clocked 330 miles today, all motorway.

Looking forward to see how your car runs with the new kit installed.

Regards

Brian

Carlsson

Well, now I have had two Carlsson Eco units. One sent from Carlsson in the UK (Poole) and one from Carlsson in Germany.

Both units were obviously second hand. The first one was full of oily finger prints, the casing was scratched and the serial label was peeled back. That went straight back to Poole.

The second has had the original label peeled off and a new one stuck back in it's place - completely wonky so it shows the glue from the original. The serial doesn't match the warranty sheet either. This will also be going back - this time for a full refund.

Neither units have done anything to the performance or fuel economy. Gear shifting is exactly the same with or without the unit fitted, 50mph - 75mph in top is no different either.

I am very suprised at Carlsson Germany - giving me the run around and not returning calls or emails.

That is seriously bad form I have to say, seems you've given them more than enough opportunity to make a sale. Definitely time to call it quits and go elsewhere.

This is why add on's are c***.

You could try these boys, I ran a W203 C200Cdi with one of there units on for ten months, now fitted to W204 C220Cdi. Plenty of mid range torque added and approximatly 20 ~ 25 % increase in BHP. Takes about 3 mins to fit, so it can be removed for servicing etc and doesn't show on STAR.

Paid about £300 + VAT, they will fit if you like (Mansfield, Notts).

Thanks for all the suggestions, Kleemann, Superchip, and the Torqtec - which I had never heard of?

I sent the Carlsson Eco back for a refund. The UK guy is in Germany at the end of the week so he will take it with him and have it checked out. I want to wait and see if ....

1. There is actually a fault with it,
2. It doesn't work on my ECU,
3. They say there is nothing wrong with it and it will work on my ECU.

If the answer is 3, then I'll look at the other options as obviously it doesn't do what it says on the tin...

Cheers

try the brabus I've got one on my 07 c320cdi its brilliant 272bhp 436ftb of torque 0-60 six seconds 165mph 35 to 40mpg around town 48mpg on the motorway.

Sorry to resurrect a slightly older thread. Have just had a mailing through today about the Brabus chips from my local M-B dealer and was interested in exactly how good they are. I own a C320 CDI Sport, and in normal use I have averaged 38mpg over 6000 miles so far. I have had up to 45mpg on longer motorway trips, and round town in the low 30s mpg. Is the fuel economy likely to be altered were I to have one of the Brabus chips fitted (assume the full 50bhp increase one)?

Also, how much of a difference is this likely to make to my insurance (27 y.o., with 4 years no claim living in a reasonable post code with off street parking)?

Thanks.

As with any chip upgrade it will probably give you a couple of extra mpg - unless you are booting it everywhere with a big smile on your face. As for the insurance, I was quoted £125/year extra for anything that added more 10% power. - That's one of the reasons I wanted the Carlsson Eco.I still haven't found out if the 2 eco's I had were faulty. I don't think Carlsson UK speak to Germany and vice versa.Any how after taking 3 separate days off work to get 'the box is shipped and will be with you tomorrow' fitted, I gave up, spoke to Germany my self and believe it or not it should be here Monday. This time I have the tracking number.
What were you quoted for the Brabus?

Thanks for your quick response. If the fuel economy improved (and to be fair I tend to very restrained in using the accelerator) then that makes the chip even more interesting. I have literally just had a leaflet through the post about them from my local M-B dealership, with a 'from £1200' (or something like that) price. I'd guess the full 50bhp upgrade may cost more than that. The insurance wouldn't be too bad if it was only another £125 or so a year, but that would of course, depend on my insurer.

Sorry to hear that you've still not go your Carlsson unit yet. Hope that it comes through fine this time around, and that it works!

Thanks again.

When looking at these tuners how do you know which engine you have ?

for example, for my 07 C200 CDI there are 4 choices :

C 200 CDI 102 PS
75 (102)

C 200 CDI 115 PS
85 (115)
120 (163)

108 (147)
270
330
