Hi All,

I have some question centred around my ability and desire to have Brabus lowering springs fitted to my '05 CLK 200K.

Now, I have found that I can buy springs off the Mercedes Parts web site, but the only springs that seem familiar are CLK 200 K CGI ones. Others are for CDI's and 500's etc.

My questions are (and for obvious reasons I don't want to point them at a dealer) are:

1) are the noted springs suitable for a CLK 200K (not CGI)? If anyone has the part number for what I need, I would be most grateful... even if the news is that I can't go ahead :-(

2) In terms of garage hours, how long will it take to fit the springs?

3) How much bang am I going to get for my buck? Is ride going to be greatly compromised, is handling going to improve by much?

General comments about making this mod would be appreciated :D

Hi Baldguy,

I can find H&R springs for around £205, MB Parts have Brabus parts for (I think, if my model is stated right) around £225.

Your car has convinced me to go ahead though :-)

What is your opinion on ride and handling?

Ta

Gary

With all due respect, isn't the 200K engine a little underpowered to warrant investing in suspension upgrades?

Whether 200K or 55, the car comes from the factory with suspension set up to suit the character and performance of the car.

Whether 200k or 55, the owner may choose to alter the character and performance of the car.

Wow, elitist or what!

If I want to spend my money increasing the average speed of my journey rather than increase the claimed maximum speed that is my business and in fact a better aim than trying to lay rubber.

I'm not 17 any more and all that nonsense is out of my system.

I seek a higher average speed through better cornering and a better stance when I do park up :)

Good luck with your upgrade and please enjoy all those minutes you shave off your journey times - not to mention the admiring glances you get in car park!

Everyone to their own please guys....

Gary, I'm no spring chicken and wanted like you a better look without the dumped in the weeds saxo look... My car is the Avantgarde anyway and the ride is marginally different to that... Quite welcome to see take a ride in it if you like... How far into Wiltshire are you? I'm in Basingstoke....

Cheers

SportscoupeRich,

Did you need to have the alignment adjusted after spring fitment?

BaldGuy, many many thanks for your kind offer, alas I live almost on the Somerset border and am unlikely to be in your neck of the woods for a few weeks (taking my scooter into Comand for a few bits and pieces), but I appreciate your remarks :D

Thanks Olly,

Beginning to look like you're talking yourself into a job :-)

I have looked at the H&R springs and they are very reputable (which did concern me) as they claim to be the supplier to Mercedes for the DTM amongst other lesser brands such as Porche ;)

Hi All,

Received a message from MB Parts that the springs I desire ARE compatible with my car (CLK 200K versus CLK 200 CGI) and I will order them. Alas they are ordered from Germany and will take weeks to arrive but ho hum, it'll give me time to sort out installation :D
