Brake Hold Function

He won't have the 'queue of traffic stop start thingy'. It's proper name was SBC Stop and (the clue being in the name) was part of the Sensotronic Brake Control. SBC Stop was discontinued in 2004 and SBC itself went with the introduction of the E Class facelift. It also died in the CLS somewhere early in 2006.

SBC Hold being such a useful feature, it has been replicated in the new brake system as Brake Hold.

The car in this thread does have both SBC stop and Hold.

But not SBC..

The original ABS system can supply this type of feature without the requirement for SBC.
SBC is simply the method of providing all the main braking power required without a servo.

Yes correct a 2007 E class does not have SBC but my info in my first post was correct for cars that do

Wow, just came across this and tried it on my car - it works!
Wow, I love learning new things having had the car for a while.

The SBC stop is really useful imo. As is the hold of course. Just press the brake when stopped and pull the cruies control lever and there you go!
Thanks for this thread!

I got used to it in the E280CDi I had for three months, then was really happy to find that my E270Cdi also has it, albiet with the SBC. SBC is a great idea but as borne out with its demise an unnecessary expense and complication. Plus the odd noises from the recharging are, well, odd...

Not found much use for SBC stop, always seems a bit jerky but then I spend very little time in traffic.

Do they all have this? I cannot find anything about it in the manual and have played with cruise control lever whilst stopped and nothing happens!

Try pressing the brake pedal harder once you are stopped. HOLD should come up on the dash display.

The hold thing is working fine, it was the other stop/start function - SBC stop that I was enquiring about. I love the brake hold, I use it all the time these days!

See DieselE explanation above, this SBC Stop was discontinued. Only HOLD remains.
