Thank you, Iwish I had'nt asked now, as it means the body panels are
probably not galvanised.

EPC gives the build date is 18-02- 2003

Mine has a 2 for it's 10th digit and it's 1996.

it's definitely a 2,when I put it in the Data Card thingy it comes up with being built 1996

Edited to correct myself.

It was built 13/12/95,so I don't think that link you posted seems to work in this situation.
To the original poster, try this Google Translate

It's coming up as 18/03/03 according to that.

The Wiki link is wrong.

This is what I have discovered by observation about Mercedes vehicles ..

Wab cdefgh ij klmnop q

W is the letter W
ab = i've seen DB DC DD on passenger cars, DF on vans, MX on SLS
DB was most of the passenger cars until the ML came out which was DC
I think newer cars come as DD.
cde is the model series (such as 212 for current E class)
f is the body type (0 = saloon, 1 = estate, 3 = coupe, 4 = convertible, 8 = 'GL', I think 7 is CLC)
gh is then the engine type, but only consistant in a given model series
i seems to be the number 1 or 2
j is a letter to show the factory.
klmnop is the 6 digit unique within the model series (ie current E class etc)
q is a checksum which you don't normally see or need
