buying an e55 amg

hi. i am currently thinking of buying a e55 amg.. going to view one on weekend, 98 r plate 110,000 miles for 10 grand.... any bad points about these cars... reliability etc... hoe would it fair up against an m5... thanks

Rust, rust, rust and rust are the major things to look for, in that order. There are quite literally dozens of threads listing the hot spots, but a full Mercedes-Benz service history is a sensible base line.

Pull out all the rubber door seals, boot seal, and the number plate fixings...... The list is endless.

Excellent car, with an excellent engine, but a terrible reputation for............. Yup, rust.

As a general rule the older a W210 is the more likely it is that the rust is easy to spot and if you pick one old enough (like pre-1999) it is likely to either be very rusty or not rusty at all, the best models for bodywork being 1995-1997ish!

if you're talking about performance then I imagine the M5 has the edge, if you're talking about class then the E55 destroys the M5 every time

62600 miles mate. Just had a B service.
10 mths mot.
All the rust finally done to my satisfaction by shot blasting
