Buying dilemma: CLS/E55 vs SL55 vs R171 SLK55…

Just a thought......have you considered a CLK 55? Just putting it out there :)

I have, that and the C55, but they just don't do it for me tbh.

Just out of interest, your supercharged M3, ESS, Harrop or something else? Pics?? I do like a fast BMW.

Nice! Is that the 640 kit?

Thanks :) And no, that was too expensive, I went for the 610 kit :) it made 582hp up from a baseline figure of 386hp (all on the same Dyno Dynamics dyno), so it actually made a bigger gain than it's supposed to, so I have no complaints! Although when I next have to get the spark plugs changed (which is soon and often) I'm planning on getting the colder ones along with a slightly smaller pulley to see if I can nudge it past the 600hp-mark :D

CLS 55 for me or SL55 if you don’t need the space or seats.

Don’t worry about ABC / Airmatic good specialists can rebuild at reasonable costs.

Same with SBC - it can be resolved without too much expense.

The car can also suffer from other costs such as battery control modules, alternators, AC compressors. My CLS was well maintained but I still had to replace a strut and pump for Airmatic and the items mentioned above.

You’re very welcome. It’s a slightly different crowd. I find the contrast quite interesting...

I meant more from the BMW lot baying for my blood if they found me here, lol! But I have two BMWs so I'd like to think that's enough to offset buying one AMG :D

Now I understand. Was struggling to work out what kind of Engineer you must be to have such an arcane interest in the underlying tech.

Still think the SLK or SL being the obvious choices, depending on your view of size & risk/cost.

We get all kinds of people on here....

lol! I won’t tell :)

Love the colour - looks very nearly Estoril Blue which I remember from my E36 Evo many many moons ago.

I imagine that shifts as my E55K was running at around 600 and that was a bit tasty.

Thank you :) And it's not too far off, though this is darker and more blue than Estoril, if that makes sense! It's Monte Carlo blue, which was available either as a special order colour or on the special edition model, like mine :)

And it does, but the difference is that you still have to work for it. Max power doesn't arrive until over 8k and whereas yours would have had around 700lb ft, mine 'only' has around 370. The power delivery is nice because it's very linear and feels a lot like the stock engine, just with a lot more of everything, but it does also mean you have to be committed. This is why I like the idea of the M113K which would be a better companion when I'm not in the mood to put the effort in :)

Very nice.

Yes, very true - I remember the Evo revving to around a 7500 red line although I loved driving a car like that back then.

My E55 was "only" just under 600lb-ft but yeah was very early in the rev range and very easy to get the power on - I think that changed me into preferring forced induction (along with the Saab 9-5 Aero HOT I had before). It's addictive!

Sounds like an E55K or CLS55K beckons then!

To have to choose one of any of these cars is a problem I could manage to live with. ;)

Oh yeah, it's awesome when you're in the mood and have the space to play :)

Yeah, that effortless urge is something I'm definitely keen on :)

I think owning two supercharged V8s would feel like quite the achievement :D And obviously I would have to mod a 55K, because it's the done thing ;)
