Key manufacturers of winter tyres have ceased production allocations for the UK.

Current stockpiles once sold, that's it, so if you have ambitions for winter tyres this year be quick.

When you say UK allocation do you mean those ordered in bulk and shipped to UK?

Mine were delivered direct from Hanover, ordered from MyTyres. I guess this would still be a possibilty?

Last time I looked MyTyres had next to none left. Obscure manufacturers, that sort of thing.

Considering last years demand for winter tyres it's interesting to hear supplies are being capped so early in the season. What's the long range weather forcecast saying about this winter?

The only thing we make in the UK is redundancy's.... Manufacturers predicted winter tyre numbers for the UK and due to this topic> http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/wheels-tyres/98523-cost-tyres-gone-up-quite-lot.html demand has exceeded expectation.

Due to material and shipping cost the winter tyre allocation for the UK has been met despite demand, Continental tyres for example has ceased production.

My local tyre depot ordered Vredestiens in 17 different sizes a few weeks ago. All he got was three of the ordered sizes, so yes winter tyres do seem to be in short supply at the moment. No doubt prices will escalate in line with demand.

i'm not going to be swapping tyres around this year, but will next year, so it certainly is something to bear in mind, because the situation is unlikely to improve next year

Last Tuesday I ordered from my local tyre fitter 5 Michelin tyres and so far, only 4 have been delivered to him. He has searched tyre stockists for the fifth but so far, has had no luck. It's a pity as I've got 5 refurbished 8 hole alloys for them to go on.

I've just been shopping around for some winter tyres for my w201 battlewagon and rather surprisingly Kwik Fit came up trumps with the best deal.

I ended up getting some Continental Wintercontact TS380's for less than the price of Kumho's at MyTyres and I'm booked in for fitting on Thursday.

I think Kwik fit must be having a bit of a winter tyre sales drive or something.

I too got a good deal on the Contis at KwikFit, so I can only assume they have at least passed on some of their buying power. Oddly enough, I am booked in on Thursday too.

Kwik-Fit have a big stock, because they are now offering a winter tyre changeover and storgae of summer tyres for fleet users.

Conti were expecting a 25% increase from last year - i think they actually could have got 60% if they'd made enough !

Since i've not fitted my spare wheels and new Nokians (and they rose in price 25% after i bought them), i'm now wondering whether to sell them on at a profit, and use the GFs Panda as we did with no issues last year :D

Its not just for fleet users as I was offered the choice when I ordered my winter tyres at £45 per season.

I assume were talking 2 seasons so £90 per year... dont know if that includes fitting or not. If it does, that is not too bad a deal.

My new tyres come with a storage bag apparently?

Spike - thank you so much. This forum is SO useful.

I bought some winter tyres from mytyres last week, who were very good, although couldn't get the ones I wanted.

I was about to order some for my wife's car when I saw your post. We can put continental 4x4 winter contacts on her volvo xc90 from kwikfit for £30 per tyre less than mytyres! I rang the local branch and they will confirm delivery tomorrow morning. Please note you have to order them online if you want the 25% discount. And as you say they will store summer tyres if we want.

I only wish I had seen your post before I ordered my Dunlops.

Thanks again,
Matthew

I just hope Kwikfit honnour the deal when you get there. It wouldn't be the first time they have stated they have tyres only to find they don't when arriving for fitting..

got 2 bridgestones 265 35 18 for my winter rims, brand new off ebay... £195 the pair... bargain!

Unbelievable. Kwik fit prices have gone up overnight! Phoned them late yesterday and they said ring back in am to confirm availability. Total price £100 higher today. I nearly booked them online yesterday. I might see if the shopping cart from yesterday is retrievable on my home computer.
