Bye bye Ceginus / Evo II / Mille Miglia, hello AMGs

Bill - Tony @ TM Motors in Molesey would be able to adjust that ride height I'm sure.

He's pretty good on all MBs and his wife drives a 2.5-16 daily, this has the same linkage that Dieselman mentions (on the rear) that could be adjusted to alter the ride height.

It's just an adjustable rod on the anti-roll bar which operates a valve. Fairly sure that it would be similar/same on your R129.

Worth a call :)

Thanks guys. I've used TM Motors before and they are excellent, the problem is getting over there unless I take a day off work! I will have a look underneath this weekend and see if it looks like something I can do.

Those wheels suit the SL very well. Car looks even better than before!

Lowering - success I think!

Well after a bit of olde worlde spannering tonight I think I've succeeded in lowering the front suspension by about the right amount (picture taken at 9:30 - getting dark!):

Took it for a quick drive and all seems OK, will reserve final judgement till tomorrow though :)

The bar running from the bracket on the anti-roll bar to the electrical box that I assumed was the level sensor was in two pieces - overlapping in the middle and clamped together by a nut & bolt. I was able to get access to this (just) by jacking the OSF of the car. Marked the current position with tipp-ex, slackened the bolt off, shortened the bar by about 4mm, clamped it tight again. Result as above ... a bit jammy!

Looks spot on Bill. well done...

Did you do the front only or both ends.?

Cheers, wouldn't have tried it without your suggestion :)

Only did the front, the amount was complete guesswork :o

Although the whole thing could still be dropped a little more I'm reluctant to tinker much further ... whether by accident or design ADS R129s do seem to ride a little higher than standard cars - this is Nav's old SL600 (with ADS) at Olly's GTG (Mark300SL picture):

Bill

Did you have factory rolled arches, did you roll them ? or with your variable suspension is it not needed - I am in info aquisition mode before I spend anything

TIA

I don't think there were rolled arches for the R129 ??

As mentioned in the other thread, they were with factory fit AMGs.

My Silver Arrow had rolled arches as well.

Hey Bill

Hi Bill,

Are your tyres 285 on the rear or 275's?

Wow, old thread! Yup mine are 245/40 front (18x8.5 ET25 rim), and 275/35 rear (18x10 ET25 rim). That was the official AMG setup.

285 vs 275

I know this is an old topic as it has been discussed at length. The 285 look fatter then the 275 but do they provide any more rim protection.

Bill maybe you can offer some advice here. I am beginning to come to the clonclusion that it must be down to the tyre brand. Have been told that the Pirelli's offer more protection than the standard Dunlop SP9000 on an 18"

Examine the amount of protection you get in the photo, surely these must be 285's?

my 285's give rim protection like that... Bridgestones.. but some are narrower... Toyo were renowned for being narrow in my tvr days... not sure if they still are?

I'm quite happy with the amount of rim protection my 275 Dunlops (SP Sport 01 MO) give - they look pretty similar to the picture above :dk:
