Well, it’s a few days before Christmas and I’m sat in the passenger seat of my beloved CL203 at the side of the road. A recovery truck on the way to pick her up.

A white Ford transit decided to run a red light 2 hours ago and smash right into the side of me at a junction. The insurance company assessed it over the phone and it’s written off. Just had it serviced too! Thanks life! Merry Christmas!

AAAAARGH
Hope you're OK bud.

Sorry to hear this, especially so close to Christmas. I hope you aren't hurt which is the main thing. I know we all take pride in our cars but they can be replaced,

Thank you! Really stunned me. It was myself and little girl in the car, but we are OK. I know it’s not a C63 or anything, but it was a lovely looked after example I got from a Merc specialist with 23 stamps in the book. I could not fault it as there was nothing that didn’t work. As you say we are OK though and that’s to be grateful for. These CL203’s are sturdier than people give them credit for. I can promise that!

I hope you push for the Ford driver to be done for driving "without due care...." etc...........In fact running red light might even be "dangerous driving".
I did with the lady who pulled out in front of me....and she was convicted. I thought that at least it might make her think about her driving in the future.....She only got 6 points and small fine though.

The guy admitted his mistake immediately (bit hard to deny) but he was as shaken up. He gave over every detail immediately and knew my insurer would be checking with him about the liability. He was apologizing constantly. I really don’t want to make another persons life harder if it isn’t needed. I would if I thought it was necessary, but I’m not sure I could deal with the stress of it myself right now.

Fair enough....hopefully you got the police to attend anyway...they will decide if they should prosecute. Its funny how often apologies at the scene turn to denial when it comes to the claim.....Police backup always helps in those cases.

I was thinking about that. You are not wrong. I did report it and there’s a police log number. They said they won’t prosecute jumping the light unless someone was injured. Weird when an accident is caused by driving through a red light, but we will see. I hope that doesn’t happen

Sorry to hear that, what a rotten shame - especially when you love your car. At least nobody was injured. I hope the insurance claim proceeds without drama and you can find a worthy replacement.
Thank you. I hope so! Yes, it wasn’t a particularly special model or of any great worth, but it was a very good example of what it was. I looked after it well

Sorry to hear about your accident, hopefully no ill effects when you and your daughter wake up tomorrow . A real pain in the neck especially at this time of year but as others have said the car can be replaced. Enjoy your Christmas and tracking down a replacement car , you might even find something you prefer . Anyway Happy Christmas to you.

An older car in the condition that you describe is worth much more than an average model so be prepared with a list of reasons why it is worth more than an average example. The other driver is liable to put you back in the position that you were in before the accident so don't be fobbed off by his insurer. If his insurer is not prepared to offer you a reasonable settlement there is nothing to stop you taking legal action against him directly for your reasonable losses. Even the threat of doing that with reasonable grounds usually makes the insurer want to negotiate.

I love the positivity! I’ve been feeling not great about it today. The time of year is causing a big delay in getting a temporary vehicle. I’ve been on the phone all day! You’re right though. Everyone is safe and knows what I might find!

I did explain to them that I sought this car from a Mercedes specialist hundreds of miles up country due to its condition and care. It had a lot of money spent. Mercedes reconditioned the gearbox and it had 23 service stamps since 2006 even if there was only a thousand miles since the last one the year before. Everything worked and the interior was superb. I had a look online at other CL203’s as similar as I could find and I’m definitely not getting enough from the insurance to buy one of those on the current car market. Prices seems quite high on everything. I’ve resolved myself to having to pay out more on top if I want anything similar.

Bad luck:crazy:. As mentioned , nobody was injured and you live to fight another day.
Hopefully your claim will go through quickly and you find a decent replacement.

Sorry to hear about that.

Personally, I would recommend not getting your own insurer involved (other than notifying them of the incident as you're bound to do by the terms of your policy).

Instead, I would call up the other-party's insurer and submit the claim directly with them. Things usually work out quicker and more efficient this way.

They are also obliged to provide you with a hire car 'similar' to the car written-off, from now and until you receive the settlement payment from them.

And, start looking on Autotrader and eBay etc for CL203 for sale of similar age, mileage, spec, condition, history, etc, offered by private sellers (not trade), and collect screenshots of these ads. You'll need them later, trust me... been there, done that :D
