Someone removed my front number plate yesterday which, I now realise, had been stuck on by the Dealer I bought it from rather than fixed with screws and caps. Front bumper is curved so i asked the nearest Main Dealer for the cost for a new black plate support . £31.00 plus VAT which seemed a little expensive so does anyone have any suggestions as to obtaining a cheaper solution. Local breakers spring to mind which I will try when I have a spare minute:mad:
All help gratefully received.
Cheers

By the time you have sourced one from a breakers, paid for it, paid for posting and your time in finding one, I don't think £36.43 is unreasonable. The plus side being, it will be right and new and look good on your chariot.

As a side issue is your plate something a child, or student might want to collect, or is it a plain number that someone might use for cloning purposes?

For the cost of a stamp I would write a letter to the DVLA informing them of any suspicions.

Do any camera's just take pictures of front number plates? :o

Good luck with the repair

Regards
John

i will definitely report that to he DVLA and the police because congestion charge people are not very forgiving

Hi all and thanks for your comments:)
I telephoned the police as soon as I spotted the plate missing and got a Crime Report Number. I have also spoken to, and now written to the DVLA, as they will not accept communications without a personal signature on them. This will go on their database.
I think I have covered all the bases but will wait and see on that.

Number is not personal so i assume it was taken for cloning purposes:devil:
I have now fixed both plates with screws rather than the sticky tape the dealer used previously. I am hoping that potential thief's don't carry screwdrivers.......

Did the plate and holder drop off, if so maybe it wasn't theft at all, but merely falling off.

Depending on the strength of the tape/sticky pads some do fall off. My mum's plate on her car was stuck on, went around town etc, and when we got back to the car it had fallen off, luckily it had fallen off at home on the drive!:D
I use sticky pads as I like the clean unblemished look of the plate. Silly things like that bug me so when I get a new car with screwed on plates, I have to order new ones.... :D

mine is in a frame .the frame is screwed in and the plate is forced into the frame on top of the screws, so the srews are not visible but the plte can not be taken out wthout breaking it.

Like this one. It's been off about four times now including this time, which is about two weeks so far.

The reason they fall off is due to not cleaning the area first, so the adhesive doesn't stick properly. Clean with alchohol first then use strong d/sided tape/pads and they won't fall off again.
