Hi Guys,

recently purchased a C250 cdi AMG Sport plus Coupe, with command, and Ive trawled the web looking for a DIY retrofit guide to the reverse camera, with no success.

Im after a parts list, and a how to guide.

I assume the oem camera is expensive. but Im interested in seeing what the oem camera looks like. Is it a fixed position?

I'm hoping its a case of an aftermarket camera, installed in the oem position, with power from the rear lights, and a lead ran to the head unit, where its a plug n play job.

But then this is all assumption.

Is a module needed? and is so. what for?

What I don't want is a link to an overpriced package. I assume the retro fit can be done for under £200?

I can't realy help, however, I think you should have ordered it from the factory along with all the other options, I would think you will struggle to retrofit for less than £200. For what it's worth, the camera isn't that great, in my opinion the field of view is to wide and there are no guid lines to follow so all in all, not so good. Mrs A picks up her new B class when we get home from holiday this weekend and the camera on that has the guide lines which move with steering input, so much better in my view.

The genuine Mercedes reverse camera kit is £399. You can do it using an after market kit which replaces one of the number plate lights, for less but you will need to change your bulbs for LED ones as the conventional bulbs get so hot that they melt the camera and wiring. Not an issue with the factory kit as the camera isnt in the light.

Fitting is very straight forward.

Well. This weekend I managed to get the reverse camera up and running. Its not installed yet but I did wire up and test with the camera straight into the head unit.

I followed this guide: CLICK ME to access the command unit. Take care though when removing the trim/vents unit, as there are 2 clips inside the air vents that require a thin screwdriver or trim removal tool to pop the clips inwards. Other than that. the guide is good.

I bought one of these : CLICK ME and popped the guts out as the standard fakra plug in the command is a double unit, I simply connected the guts into the empty slot in the existing plug.(green, at base of command unit)

As it was for test purposes only, I powered the camera up with a 12v motorcycle battery I had handy, but any clean 12v supply will do. I will expand on this once Ive installed properly.

With the camera wired up, I entered the engineers menu. this is done by holding {call end} + {1} + {#}

in there, the option to activate RVC (Rear View Camera) is there, and also the RVC type (ntsc pr pal)

I will try and do a how to guide when I properly install as I was time restricted when testing..

Either way. the camera worked, the guidelines where shown on the screen, and it didnt cost anywhere near the £400 factory option!

this is the camera I bought. EBay link

Nice job,I fitted an allways on one with a little screen as the small back window in the cabriolet made me very nervous (spend a lot of time in Italy where driving is a blood sport)

Not that i was aware of! Ill try and give a more detailed report or the menu over xmas when ill have rhe tome to install properly

I fitted one of those cameras and there quite good for the money but the numberplate light is very dim on the side with the camera. I'Ve just ordered some L.E.D. Number plate bulbs to see if the extra brightness will make it better. Otherwise i'm thinking of moving the camera to the position where a factory fitted camera would go.

Just purchased a genuine Mercedes Benz 2011 W204 retrofit rear view camera kit complete with camera, replacement chrome boot lid trim, 2 wiring looms and a power supply module for £213. Good to see prices haven't changed much.

That sounds like a cracking deal for OEM stuff. Helpful link??
