Hi, has anyone heard of a C class estate window shattering?? In short I had some work done by Mercs which meant they had to replace the tail gate. I got the car back and a few weeks later the window shattered on its own (e.g it didnt come into contact with anything), Mercs are denying it related with the work they did so I am having the debate with them now. The boot never shut a smoothly as it did b4. I can have it fixed on my insurance but Autoglass reckon it will happen again as the something is out of alignment so mercs need to sort it.......ho hum. Any advice, has anyone heard of this happening.

because the car hadnt moved off my drive, I live in a very quiet village and it was impossible for anything/anyone to come into contact with it

sorry should have added. I was in the car when it happend...I shut the boot as normal, didnt notice it had popped....got in the car and as i was waiting for it to demist the glass started failing in.

Maybe worth getting it inspected by an independent engineer >

A colleague had this happen when demisting the rear window. Something to do with heat stress

thanks. i was thinking of doing that. Any suggestions who would be suitable to take the car to in order to get this done?

Glass Problem

You would only get stress in the glass if the door is twisted ie had a rear shunt, as the glass is a compound of three parts ie two parts glass to one part plastic sandwiched between them, otherwise you wouldnt have a heated rear glass. If you are a member of the RAC or AA they should be able to take this up on you behalf. who replaced the rear door an MB garage or other and if MB where did they source the door from?
how you get it fixed for free. Ian
