Thanks for that; interesting to read and get a quote, last service on their system was 27,000 miles (bought at 31,000).

As it happens I did my own 'B' service just after I bought my car 2 months ago; I replaced extra filters which are listed as options, total cost £95 for the (OEM) parts. They quote £657 plus £88 for the dust filter and air filter element total £745.

No surprise that DIY is cheaper than MB I suppose, but being an ex company car driver I'm a bit out of touch of servicing costs. I hope that DIY servicing won't bite me later on, but the plan is to keep the (2016) car for maybe 10 years, so by then I think a big pile of receipts will be good enough for most buyers.

Shame I can't see what they would charge for the gearbox oil/filter change (7G+ box) as I plan to do that myself soon using MB parts for about £170. It's nice to know how much I'm saving when I DIY...it makes the skinned knuckles feel slightly better. :D

7g+ costs around £200 + . At an indie ,use a one with the ess that mb use for the records. No skinned knuckles .

My last service due was in the regions of £1300 . Inc both air filters , fuel filter, new brake fluid, oil and filter . Automatic gearbox service.

I paid £390 to have the gearbox done . 9g+. The rest I did myself for around £100 .

That seems a bit too cheap if the MB parts and oil are £170. Is that for the full torque convertor drain as well? If so I'd like to know where your Indy is at that price as it's probably worth a fair drive, or perhaps wait until I'm visiting family in that general direction, depending where it is. I'm not panicking to get it done as the car is only at 32,000 miles (although 7 years old, which is probably more important), so could wait for a while to get it done.

EDIT: Just saw you said 'at an Indy' rather than 'your' Indy: Prices round here seem to be £300+ so not that much cheaper than MB (not that I'd use them after the service I got with my company car over the years and when my wife's SLK used to go in there under a service contract).

Just a bump incase anyone can give me the name of an Indy who can do the 7G+ gearbox oil and filter change (full job including torque convertor) for '£200' as I'm going to order the parts soon to DIY. I'd hate to find I could have paid only £30 more for someone else to do it for me, even if it means a bit of a drive. :)

I said £200 + if you look a bit closer . Also no mention of a TC drain either. :). Things get a little cheaper as you nearer Scotland obviously.

Maybe £200 for the 5g service , I don’t think that’s a realistic price now for the 7g+ , but give Ian at Star Mercedes , Caversham a ring for an Indy price in your area .

We are £290+vat

Think you will struggle to find anyone to do for £200
Thanks, so £350 with the VAT which isn't far off the figure I'd been told before for an Indy.

£350 is a bit more than '£200+' though really. It's a bit pointless not doing the TC drain, so I'd assume that would be taken for granted otherwise just mixing 4 litres of old oil back with the new stuff. I've got family in the North East, so if it had been nearer them I could have timed it for my next visit if you knew an actual Indy who would do it for something closer to the figure you were implying.

Thanks for reminding me; been meaning to give them a shout, but I guess the figure Alexanderfoti quoted is probably not much different from what they'd want. I will check though as I might be surprised.

Regarding the 'dealer mark up' I was quoted £170 for the full service kit which includes 9 litres of oil, so that's 2 x 4 litres of the Fuchs oil, plus another 1 litre bottle, so it narrows it up a bit more. Since the kit shown on eBay is coming from the same dealer that quoted me, then it's only the oil that is different. I'd rather put the MB oil in than take a chance that the Fuchs is equivalent, especially for such a small saving.

Mb Darlington quoted me £10 less than prestige . For my e350 9g box.

Thanks @OneForTheRoad Darlington is pretty close to where my family is.

Who is Prestige and how much did they quote you and how long ago? Could be worth me getting it booked in and give me an excuse to visit family again.

I was quoted for a 9g at prestige as I didn't know about mb Darlington Indy at the time , prestige tbh are an excellent outfit 30+ years of experience , they have around 8 ramps and while I was there the amount of Merc owners booking in was astonishing.

My bill was £390 . 9g . Prestige is at Stockton. It was march time this year iirc.

Thanks, useful to know. I'll probably still do it myself at those prices then. I've been working on 4 cars since I retired including getting my wife's SLK ready to trade in, so another afternoon won't kill me, especially if it saves the best part of £200. I did the whole B service, plus extra filters for £95 last month so might as well finish off the work it needs to get it all up to scratch. Shame we barely drive it, but the idea was to have it for longer trips and walk locally or use my Ka as a 'shopping trolley'.

I did mine earlier last year, hardest part is to get the car high enough and level to get underneath.
I bought the whole kit from Mercedes Newcastle, although it was delivered from Sytners in Leics.

Obviously your oil choice is yours , but MB don’t make oil and Fuchs is factory fill

Good to know W1ghty: I've found a 1 litre bottle on eBay to go with the 2 x 4 litres linked further up this page, plus the kit from MB Newcastle as further up (same kit as I was going to buy with the oil). Works out £26 saving having checked the latest price on the kit + oil at £176 now, so thanks for that. Definitely be doing it myself now, just might have to wait a while until I get round to it.

£150 verses £350 is a no brainer for an afternoon's work (or even if it takes me all day).

@geoffus I've watched that video before (I think you posted it somewhere else maybe?), but thanks for the reminder.
