C124 300CE water pump variants

Ah, don't be too hard on yourself Derin, there's a lot worse things you could be doing with the money you've spent on your hobby. Saying that maybe of little consolation but you could be in the pub every night talking boll0x and/or shoving white stuff up your nose.

Anyway, what cars are keepers, by the sounds of it possibly the 300CE is one?

The brownish bits you see on the white aren't rust...that's clear waxoyl (which is actually beige!) staining the white!

I've had the whole old subframe out of that car (which had perforating rust on it) and replaced it with a completely sound one which I first completely sandblasted back to clean metal, bare-metal before re-coating. Every component (bush, arm, link, nut, bolt, etc) was then replaced back there....road springs, shock-absorbers, diff carrier bush, brake lines, fuel lines, backing plates, handbrake components, calipers overhauled, pads...and yes those are new discs. It's just taken so long they've inevitably got surface rust on them by now!

pheww, i'm really glad i'm not the only one thinking of doing this stuff :bannana: kid you not, its exactly what i have planned for my motor. i'd love to come down one day to see progress on it.

Bloody hell that is some going. Totally hats off to you.

Going past your place with SWMBO and a mate on board and just bobbing in for a brew is not going to pay due respect to you and your feat of engineering. This will call for a special trip at some stage in the game.

My 124 Estate is being refettled by Ian at TMS at the moment. I wish I had the time and money to have the subframe sandblasted and recoated but I just dont. Plus cant wait to get her back on the road.

I dont know if you have seen my posts re this but here is a link.

More power to your elbow. A lot of folk on here will be willing you on to final victory.

You're very welcome anytime Billy!

Yep JJJ, that's exactly the way I used to see it. About 9-10 years ago I gave up completely watching TV. All that reality "Celebrating, come dine with me, Master-chef, strictly get me out of here, on Ice, get me out of here, cos' I'm a Big Brother" ot what ever other ****e they feed us just seemed such a waste of time that I determined to do something else with my time and do the cars instead.

I figured that at least by spending me time doing that I'd feel a sense of having achieved something rather than sit mindlessly on the sofa or go down the pub etc etc. And if I could break even on every car at least I would have owned cars that I would otherwise never have been able to experience and know.

The trouble is at the end of it all, since about 2008/9 it's just become increasingly difficult to then sell the cars and get the money back to even just break even here in the U.K. So some of my cars have gone abroad. The last of those was the W201 2.6 in Agate Green that went to Hong Kong. My ex-E30 M3 is now in Italy and the Alpina E36 B3 3.0 Coupe is in Slovenia!

It seems difficult to convince people here in the U.K that they'd be better off buying a car 'finished' and 'off the shelf' from me and save themselves the aggro and stress when they see what they might think are the same car for 4-5 times less money on Ebay or Autotrader.

After all the work, effort, stress and expense that will have gone into the white 300CE I really ought to just keep it. But despite having gone down from 10 cars just before Xmas to only 5 now it's still too many cars. I've still got my BMW 840Ci Sport with only 27K miles on the clock. An ex-Charles Ironside 124 E320 Estate as my daily car; also my wife's BMW E39 Touring and another E39 Touring in France.

Anyway....we'll see when (and if, at this rate!) it's ever finished!

Thanks John!

Yes, best to come once it's finished!

Ah! Just read your thread on your Wagon! That'll be really nice when it's finished too! :D Lovely colour combo!

Below is a pic of my E320 Wagon which I bought a few weeks ago as my daily drive. It's an ex-Charles Ironside car so it's in really nice condition. Has 160K miles on the clock but has had both its wiring loom and headgasket done quite recently:
