Hi Guys,

Bought my first Mercedes on Monday, Love the pants off the thing. C180 Elegance 2ltr auto 2002, all the toys however today my fuel gauge has died after a full fill up. So got home and located the sender under the rear seat and had a look at it, The module attached to the float looks very worn. Anyway 3 questions;

The gauge still lights up just doesn't move thus ruling the gauge out?

Can I replace just the sender, would this cure the problem?

If this was a rear SAM issue would everything else also not work?

I didn't risk trying to get any voltages from anything as I assue it is CANBUS controlled and therefore more delicate than fine china.

All help is much appreciated as I am a Mercedes noob and utterly lost and mad.

Thanks

You will have 2 senders, 1 in each side of the tank.
You need to get it on a star diagnostic where the rear Sam can be read to check levels & also the gauges can be checked with in cluster.

Thanks mate, I just hope it doesn't get too expensive

The fuel gauge started working halfway to work after I removed the left hand side fuel sender and cleaned it last night, however when i turned the ignition off and back on it was dead again. Would this indicate I need to replace the lefthand side sender? I assume this means the SAM unit is working fully in the rear. I am having trouble finding someone who can get the care on star for me without a waiting list.
